He is a dog that can turn into a human. He chases squirrels around the house literally. His human form is meant for convenience around humans and deceiving, his main form is the dog and he spends most time as a dog. I doubt he would be happy even using human form the most time. On the other hand, Elias isn't a human either, however... he is much more closer to a being human than Ruth who would probably prefer dogs as a mate anyway. Ruth is loyal to Chise the same way a dog would be. he sees her as master, a partner, a friend, but certainly not romantically. It is like shipping that dude with his small selkie familiar or the huge dragon. It is bond between a humanoid and a beast/monster/animal. They are too different creatures to be in a actual romance. This is like saying you ship Ash with his chikorita or any human with a zoroark. He can use a human form and was raised around humans maybe but he is nowhere near being a human at all.

Great AMV! The whole Ruth and Chise relationship to me is very cute, although I never shipped them romantically becuase of the fact that Ruth emotional connection to Chise seems to very much stem from seeing Isabel in her, who was like his little sister, plus I think its very much stated that he's a dog who very much thinks of himself as human (why he's able maintain that form) anyway platonic relationships can sometimes be so much more instersting than romantic ones. Oh well! shippers can only hope, and if that doesn't work, well.. there's a reason we have fanfiction and great works like these 😌

The name Ruth means friend. I do like the video, nicely done. Personally I am glad they are not romantically involved. There are so many different shapes to love and I hate how so often it only gets portrayed as romantic. I have friends I would die for and they in turn would do anything for me. Friends you can have for a life time are not many but that bond is amazing.

Tbh the Romantic form of " Love & affection " isn't the most important one for many ppl ! Their personalities mesh so unbearably well. He is so loyal and stable for Chise but I’m realizing that his only presence in the show is to help Chise. I wish we could see them bond more or see her ask how he is doing? Maybe it’s because he is her familiar and that’s just his job or maybe it’s that his state of contently being at Chise’s side until they die just can’t be shaken.
