For anyone who is not familiar with the ballet, Swan Lake: This is the prologue/introduction where we see Odette running through the forest all happy and what not. Just then a man appears all mysterious and cunning. He then turns into a monstrous wizard and Odette tries to run away but it was too late. The wizard had turned her into a swan. You gotta give props to the filmmakers for making this the beginning as it is in all the Swan Lake productions. This isn’t necessarily a nightmare Natalie’s character had. This was her dreaming of playing the part of Odette. Look up American Ballet Theater’s version.

I don't remeber anymore which company played in Portugal in 2015. But this was not the opening scene. :( It started with a party at the Prince's castle. The joker character made most of the ballet stunts. After this, the Prince leaves the party and finds the swan princess in the forest. I wish I could have seen this as the opening scene.

Natalie''s hand work is amazing. You can tell which is the double and which is Natalie.They should have given her "double" credit on the film, mentioned her at the Oscars, that does not take away however from the amount of training Natalie did for this film. Great job and amazing shots.
@intrusive-th0t Жыл бұрын
The dance double got about as much credit as a stunt double because that is functionally all she was. She did the more complicated pointe work but at the end of the day she isn’t an actress and Natalie did appear en pointe. Nobody gets this upset about Tom Cruise’s stunt double for his fight scenes in his movies not getting credit so I’m not sure why the ballet community thinks dance doubles would be treated any differently.

"I had my editor count shots. There are 139 dance shots in the film. 111 are Natalie Portman untouched. 28 are her dance double Sarah Lane. If you do the math, that's 80% Natalie Portman. What about duration? The shots that feature the double are wide shots and rarely play for longer than one second. There are two complicated longer dance sequences that we used face replacement. Even so, if we were judging by time, over 90% would be Natalie Portman. And to be clear, Natalie did dance on pointe in pointe shoes. If you look at the final shot of the opening prologue, which lasts 85 seconds, and was danced completely by Natalie, she exits the scene on pointe. That is completely her without any digital magic. I am responding to this to put this to rest and to defend my actor. Natalie sweated long and hard to deliver a great physical and emotional performance. And I don't want anyone to think that's not her they are watching. It is." - *Darren Aronofsky, Director of Black Swan*

So what? Sarah Lane sweated even more. I would go on and say if Sarah acted the whole thing she would be just as good as Natalie, if not better. Natalie is just lucky they chose her to be the actress. Ballet dancers are actors too they act without speech, they act with only emotions. As a ballet dancer Sarah must been acting since she started dancing variations.
@yuriambre32535 жыл бұрын
@@shinemendwoor dude, you talk like actors don't go through a vigorous regime. Sarah's job here, is to be a stunt double, that's it. she isn't asked to be an actress, that's Natalie's job and that's why it's a movie she won an Oscar for. You don't expect her to learn the minutia of ballet in a year do you? Besides, that is not her job, she's done her job well, and gotten an Oscar for it. She is not only Dancing, trusting to fall into another dancers arms, being buffeted about, trying to get away -en pointe, which is the point , running for her life, obviously terrified of -Something, confusion , etc, -but she is Scared. There is a malevolence sneaking up on her and has a hold of her, enough to have left it’s mark on her Psyche. Sarah Lane, Anyone? I honestly wonder if Merle Streep’s hands would be as emotive.
