Executive produced by NBA superstar and philanthropist Russell Westbrook, and directed by Peabody and Emmy-Award® winning director Stanley Nelson (“Freedom Riders”) and Peabody and duPont-Award winner Marco Williams (“Two Towns of Jasper”), the documentary commemorates the 100th anniversary of the horrific Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921, one of the worst acts of racial violence in American history, and calls attention to the previously ignored but necessary repair of a town once devastated.
In the 1920s, the Greenwood District of Tulsa, Oklahoma, also known as Black Wall Street, was one of the most prosperous African American communities in the United States. Filled with booming businesses and thriving entrepreneurs, the district served as a mecca of Black ingenuity and promise, until the evening of May 31, 1921, which marked the start of the devastating Tulsa Race Massacre. More than thirty-five city blocks were burned to the ground and hundreds of Black city dwellers were killed. The Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921 is one of the most tragic moments in our nation’s history, yet this harrowing event is largely unknown to many Americans. It is an often-overlooked story that needs to be told.
“Tulsa Burning: The 1921 Race Massacre” takes an in-depth, sobering look at the tragic events of a century ago and focuses on a specific period, from the birth of Black Wall Street, to its catastrophic downfall over the course of two bloody days, and finally the fallout and reconstruction. The documentary also follows the city’s current-day grave excavation efforts at Oaklawn Cemetery where numerous unmarked coffins of victims who were killed and buried during the massacre have been recovered. It will also feature rare archival footage and imagery from the time, coupled with commentary and interviews from numerous historians, city leaders, and activists, including the Tulsa Historical Society & Museum, the John Hope Franklin Center for Reconciliation, the Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission and the Historic Vernon A.M.E. Church, among others.

That community was absolute proof that Blacks were NOT lazy or ignorant. Or any of the other negative descriptive terms said of them by White racists. They were determined to have the kind of life they dreamed of having, and accomplished those goals with their own hard work. They didn't enslave other races, forcing others to bow and scrape while they reaped the rewards. Whites couldn't stand to see the great achievements in the Greenwood community. I've seen a documentary about this, the horror and destruction of the great success of that community. Every one of the monsters who had a hand in the destruction should have been put to death. EVERY one of them.

As someone who has lived in OK for the past 50 years, it is shameful to me that nothing was ever spoken, learned, or heard about Greenwood & 1921 until now. Thankfully, (and I am very grateful to those who have brought the stories to life) the truth of American history is coming to light. \ White privilege is a white problem, my problem, our problem. We have got to get to a place where we embrace everyone as our sister and brother. We must learn the truth of what white people did to native peoples, black peoples, asian peoples, etc. We (whites) aren't the supreme race of anything.

The demacratic party has a bad history that's why they like to get rid of history.

Brilliant indeed, agree with you whole heartedly. There is a problem, no one is going to win, except the bankers and their secret society members. Divide and conquer. They are funding all the social groups from masking, lock downs and injections, including the politicians, Antifa, every group. The economy, they want to destroy the west, all of us. Its the Hegelian Dialectic, everyone is against someone, while inflation is getting worse every day. Even religion against atheism. In science, supporting evolution and old earth, anyone who questions the status quo looses funding for research. Follow the money, these elites are herding us all, like cattle. I have been researching this mess for decades. Most of the evidence I have would get me pulled off social media. *_God Bless_*
