Learn how the Center for Agroforestry's Revord Nut Breeding Lab stratifies and pots up black walnut seeds for eventual planting in their breeding blocks at the Horticulture and Agroforestry Research Farm in New Franklin, MO.

I'm excited. Of my 74 stratified black walnut seeds, 5 have cracked open and I put them into soil and under my grow lights. The rest went back into the fridge. Super Excited!

Before the seeds go into the stratification mix, should they be washed with a bleach solution? My seeds were collected from the ground and i'm worried about unwanted fungal growth. Thanks!

Are you at liberty to say what you are breeding for? Timber? Thin shells? Nut flavor? Productivity? Speed to first harvest? Pollen load? All of the above?
