An excellent primer on creating punchy monochrome images from raw files … ta very much! I’m in my second year of shooting mostly B&W JPEG’s using the Acros film simulation on my Fuji X100V but I also record the raw image. Looks like the raw file probably has more potential in some cases so I’ll try that with Pixelmator Pro and Apple Photos editors. 📷😄

Excellent tutorial Tom. Thanks. It reinforces the dictum that when editing it should be subtlety, subtlety, subtlety. I am continually disappointed in club competition judges selecting B&W images that, to me, are massively over-produced, saying they are ‘dramatic’. This has the knock-on effect of influencing the appearance of future entries that are edited to suit what is perceived as the required standard for B&W. Glad you reinforced the message that there are basic guidelines to follow but in the end, it’s your image so make it how you would like it to look.

It's a few years since I used C1, I also need Ps, and C1's price doesn't justify continuing to buy it. When I did, I also found it worthwhile trying the white balance setting, sometimes that made a worthwhile difference. I also used to use masking, I think the last version I used had just introduced white balance into the adjustments that can be masked.

I too use C1 but I tend to send the files through Silver FX rather than processing directly in C1. Do you ever use SFX?

No I don't use SFX. I find that Capture One does everything I need it to do.
