I give the Kings three years before they're competitive. All they really need is a lot more defensive prospects to build on as well as goaltending. I know Cal is gonna be the number one going forward but he's like what, 25? The younger the better, and in next years draft, if Jesper Wallstedt is available, he'd be the perfect option in net.

Our goal should be to build our blue line through our second-round picks this draft and our first in next year's defensive heavy draft. I don't know if you mean playoff contention or Stanley cup contention I think we'll most likely be in playoff contention next year or hell, maybe even this year due to the wacky season. I think it all depends on if that momentum towards the end of the season was a fluke or not cause I thought we looked like a great team at that time.

You don't need to draft a goaltender in the 1st round to have good goaltending in the future. Kings goaltending coaches have been top notch for years and they have some promising goalie prospects. Cal Petersen is legit, even if he's 26 that still means solid goaltending for what the next 3-4 years at least?? If he's not, Jacob Ingham, Lucas Parik, and others show promise. In terms of defensive prospects, they don't need "a lot more"... they need ONE blue chip defensive prospect, that's it. That's what they're missing. They have a lot of really solid d prospects that could/should end up being good top 4/top 6 NHL d-men (Mikey Anderson, Toby Bjornfot, Jordan Spence, Sean Durzi, Kale Clague, Helge Grans, Brock Faber, Cole Hults, etc etc) but they don't have that blue chip, potential #1 defenseman to replace Doughty in the future. Luckily, Doughty is still going to be around for a while so they don't really need to fill that need right away. Kings are likely going to be out of the playoff picture in the 2021 season so they should go into the 2021 draft with a top 10 pick. If they can use that pick to draft an excellent d prospect, boom they're home free moving forward. If not, there are other ways to fill that need. They have an abundance of very talented forward prospects, they have cap space, and they have picks. They can weaponize some of those assets to target a talented young D if need be. You could be right, it could be 3 years before they really start to make an impact around the league, but it also could be much sooner. If Vilardi is legit (which he is lol), the Kings now have a legit #2 center to produce offense behind Kopitar... that's actually HUGE. Honestly, they should be much better on that alone. Plus in the next year or two you sprinkle in a couple players like Byfield, Turcotte, Kaliyev, Fagemo, etc... sure they'll be young but with veterans around them they could be pretty impactful right out of the gate. Defense should be better and should get significantly better over the next year or two. Honestly I think this Kings team could legitimately surprise people and make a playoff push THIS year if things go well. But more realistically see that happening next year. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

@@manwithaplan841 Grans and Faber are two great pickups in the second round and I totally agree, if the Kings use their 2021 first on one of the top D in that draft they'll be in really good shape. They could end up with a guy like Luke Hughes or Carson Lambos... not bad at all.

A very different kings team. I miss our Coach Sutter and the veteran dynasty but we have so many prospects and the players on the Ontario reign with so much talent to grow this upcoming season. Kopi and Doughty will lead us back to a playoff run this year. Todd is starting the reformation and can’t wait to see how the draft and free agency will pan out. GKG
