Nada Hichou I remember that scene well enough and the look wasn't sadness or helplessness. She had gotten a notice over her earpiece about Hawkeye and she cares about him more than words can express. Whether that feeling is romantic or familial in nature, I couldn't say.

DarkPegasus87 If you watch the scene closely, it actually opens with her looking so freaked out, and then we hear Fury over the earpiece. She listens to him talking about Hawkeye, then gets a look of determination as Fury asks if anyone copies. I'm not saying she doesn't care about Barton, I just think it's because the Hulk scared the shit out of her. Or a bit of both.

13wlflvr She looked shaken but I can't honestly say she was scared. When a person sees the things she has seen and lives the kind of things she has clearly been through, even fear tends to hesitate. It's like a phantom sensation: You know you should feel it but it is absent because even your subconscious doesn't remember what it is like. It's the old adage "Use it or lose it." If you don't experience something long enough, you will forget how. I went so long once using only the shortened form of my middle name that I almost forgot what my full middle name was and had to think a bit about how it was spelled.

DarkPegasus87 You're not wrong, but personally, I think she looks pretty scared. I know her back story, and can't wait to see it more in Age of Ultron. She's obviously not afraid of much, but I think the Hulk is the one thing she's scared of- basically because her weapons are useless against him, and he's so dangerous that she can't do anything but run and hope he doesn't catch her; when it comes right down to it, she's only human and very breakable compared to the Hulk. When she's assigned to recruit him, she's obviously nervous, which is a different form of fear. I think the fact that he would have killed her without Thor's intervention is what scared her. It's only natural to be afraid of dying, especially in such a violent way. Sometimes not even the most brutal or intense training can take away our basic fears and instincts. It all depends on the person.
