In reply to the question, "Where do you start," for a beginner the logical place to be would be with the Black Widow set. It's the base set (note 1000, 2000, 3000 listed on the tins). Then progress to the scorpion set, and finally to Cobra. If you are not a beginner and you already have lots of pencils, just select the set that fills a gap in your collection. For example, I feel like I'm always searching for jewel tones, so I would opt for the Cobra set. I also feel like I'm always searching for darker skin tone colors, so I would opt for the second set of skin tones. I love how they have designed these with the three complete color ranges that you can acquire as your budget allows or as your skill set improves.

The gentleman behind this brand is called Albert and his ethos was to bring pencils that were affordable and nicely pigmented. Each set was released individually starting at the Black Widow, then people asked for complementary colours so across the 3 sets you have a light, medium and dark. They are each a stand alone set so if you can only afford one you can complete a picture. There are 2 more sets now, skin Tones light and dark which fill in some of the missing colours to colour skin. He is bringing out some new sets this year and they should make quite a good range but still affordable tins at a time. Some are lightfast but there will be a full set of all colours that will be...Look on his fab, there’s some amazing art on there.🥰

I wouldnt call each a complete set because one has only one red, one has only one green, one has only one yellow...

Any set would stand well alone so if choosing one, pick the one that you like the best. I have the skin tone sets and I liked them enough that I wanted the rest. I bought the scorpion set. I have used it alone and I have also used it with other pencils that I have. I have been enjoying them while I am saving up for the other two.

I use the skin tone for animal portraits. New sets come with the barrel dipped in the colour. The company does listen to feedback. Waxed pencils, I found creamy, without wax bloom. No duplicates across all sets. Can buy open stock. I love them. Can recommend the Monarch set as well

I like the fact that each set has shades of all of the colors. You can try one set and see if you like them (I think the original Black Widow set is the most basic set of bright colors and I would start with that). If you want more colors, you can add another box of different colors without repeating any of the ones you already have. I wish more brands would do it this way. Perhaps adding a way to get all 72 in one set would be a nice option and I agree that it is annoying that the ends of the pencils are not dipped in the color corresponding to the core.

I just got all the Black Widows except the skin tones sets. They have, sometime in the last 4 years since you made this video, redone the pencils, all of mine have a dipped end to match the lead.

Definitely going to grab these. I've been on the fence, but I have a preference for hard pencils. I love my Polychromos and Crayola 120 sets. I think these would be a nice addition.

They split them so that people only had to lay out a small amount at a time, rather than have to find money they might not have for a great big hulking set. The brand aims to be affordable. There is a full palette in each tin so that someone who doesn't have much disposable income can have a rounded set, rather than having to choose between pastels/primaries/deeps, which would completely stifle them creatively. If they want a bigger variety of shades then they can buy another tin, and this tin, too, will be a rounded palette, not leaving them with a lopsided collection. It's a wonderful idea, and perfectly understandable. It certainly suits my income bracket.

That makes sense. I wish there was a little more info on the packaging though. 😊

Nikki A Yeah I think it’s obvious the sets were divided to make them more affordable. The center set with the white is obviously (to me anyway) the first set. I can’t afford a full set of all colors. There are like 5 sets now? Going to start with the Black Widow to compliment my alcohol markers.
@nikkia95064 жыл бұрын
@@polarbearhero9803 I know they've bought out a set of skin tones. Perhaps two (I'm not sure without checking). I'm the same as you, not able to buy a good set of pencils in one go. That's why I tried the Black Widow pencils. I like them so far.

I found a 36 pencil set of Prismacolor Premier for $17.87 on Amazon. That’s seems the cheapest for wax pencils. They won’t ship for another ten days though. Edit: after a month of using the Prismacolors and the Black Widow dark skin set, I much prefer the Black Widows. They keep a really sharp point and don’t break all the time. Half my Prismacolors were lost to breakage. Meanwhile one point of the BW fell off. BW is coming out with a 48 pencil set in June with all new colors & I’m going to buy that plus one of the other sets. BWs looks beautiful in coloring books & combines well with alcohol markers too. After a month, can’t recommend them enough.

The spider set was their first set. The names on the end of the pencils on other sets may have been as a result of customer feedback. I love my sets

The Black Widow 1000, as the first set to buy. The other sets give you additional colors to expand your range. More blues, yellows, greens etc.

Awesome review, thank you so much !!! I like the middle one (black spider ?} and price is great ! But I just got the Prisma & Arteza pencils, not to mentions glitter/gel pens, markers, coloring books, so I need to pace myself, lol 😂 be well, happy coloring!!! 🤩🥳🤗🥰

I just bought the Black Widow set for like 16 bucks on Amazon. I was actually impressed with how vibrant the colors are but they don't blend as well as Prismas. I think they are a good investment that can be used together with Prisma. I think the skin tone sets would be helpful but I'm yet to buy those. Overall very worth the price !

Thank you so much. This was so confusing for me and buying all 3 tins is too expensive for me. Although it's so weird to me that the color names went from "tarantula" to "banana" lol. That being said this is a pass for me since it's too expensive when a bunch of 72 sets are about the same price as 2 of these.

Another Great Video!!! I really want to get these after watching your video. They look really pigmented and it looks like it lays down pretty easily. I do already have the skin tones, both sets. Do you know if any of the colours are repeated across all sets? Or are all 5 sets completely different colours?
@MyArtSupplyObsession4 жыл бұрын
All the sets are different. I have the skin tone sets too. They are really good considering how affordable they are. I see why everyone likes them. The colors are really beautiful too. If you can, get all three sets. 😊
