Well, she just recently signed with Rounder Records. Beyond that level, musical talent won't help, might even be a barrier to superstardom, which isn't a good life anyway.

I would really like to either shake the hand of, or give a big hug to, the person that played the first blues album in the environment in which Samantha was raised. That action, innocent as it was, resulted in giving the world one of the greatest gifts it has received since the conception of four lads from Liverpool.

This particular version enchants....'cos it's for all the world as if another track has been added to the Band of Gypsies album...my all time favourite. I guess some might choke on that but hey-ho...couldn't pay a greater compliment for my part.

Now wait a minute, she sings like that... she plays like that... and she looks like that??? Good God, and the rhythm section... top musicianship. I've always been a big fan of three piece bands, I find they work the hardest, e.g. The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Creem, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. In fact, I haven't heard blues played like that since Stevie Ray left the planet. Let me just say that I am highly, that is, highly impressed. I love this stuff. I just discovered Sam this year. I've seen her three times (saw her a few days ago), but I always feel a little cheated. Where did THIS Samantha go? If the best power trio performances rank at a 10, her best performances with the new band and the new guitar style are a 7 for me. The loss of Go Go Ray is definitely part of it. I got to the party too late :(

I agree--her current work with the many-piece band is too much unnecessary noise and dilutes her talent. I hope this is a short period of experimentation for her. Springsteen put the E Street band back together after his flirtation with relative mediocrity. Signing Go Go and Alexander should be much easier by comparison.

I've been thinking about making such a comment for a while now. All musicians must grow and evolve, so I can't blame her for that in the least. But what I see and hear appear to be an executed plan with marketing taking on too big a role. Hey, whatever pays the bills, but I think it gets in the way to the extent I find her newer persona and songs less appealing. As a general proposition, when I see a video in which she has the shorter hairstyle, I can be pretty confident I will like it less than past performances. There is a focus on songwriting that, to me, can cause some blues players to lose their way. As with a lot of great classic blues songs/artists, it only takes a relatively simple song structure to get the fire started. I happen to think she looks better with her more natural (earlier) look, but the real division is playing style. I hope we see a return to form at some point. I admit my interest is waning in the interim.

I feel the "blame" lies with her "new" production team (since 2019?) who is smoothing out and commercialising her sound to make it more radio and user friendly for a wider audience. One can't blame her, as an artist she want to be as successful as possible, but unfortunately this loses something for us hardcore fans of her older sound

my pal John Richardson does great editing on his videos; however, i think mine have better audio. My video was posted in 2014, John's was from 2017. At the time, i felt mine was the best version. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Saffer POV The Bean Blossom Blues version is very good, especially where she does part of her solo after jumping on the wall! Have a look at this version filmed in April 201 at Don Odell's Legends, even before this Callahan's Music Hall version. It is by far the best imo: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3fSm2eGpcRomLc
