Beautiful video! Black woodpecker is my favourite. This week I hiked in the Sopron Mountains (in Hungary), there are many black woodpeckers in the forest, I heard their voices very often. I love them!

why is it rare to see one in the UK?

@@saints3824 We tend to get the Great Spotted and the Green, the Lesser Spotted is very rare here. But Black Woodpeckers never really come here, I'm not sure why. Insufficient forest cover perhaps.

They’ve not been recorded in the UK. Well according to several bird books I have about birds of Britain and Europe. We have just the 3 woodpeckers - Great Spotted, Lesser Spotted and Green. We don’t get Black or Grey Headed Woodpeckers.
