Gotta give thanks to my cousin. I was still a little youth in the mid 70s, she would have been around 16-17 at the time when she baby sat me and my younger sister. My cousin would play these tunes, Burning Spear, Big Youth, tunes that were the lick at that time. That was my big introduction to reggae music.

The *flying cymbal* period in the mid 70s was wicked. I was still a "likkle yute" then but my cousins were like 10 or so years older than me, so this was their ting. Burning Spear, Cornell Campbell, Johnny Clarke, Jacob Miller, Big Youth, Shorty The President were running the dances back then.

@kingcrycry23344 жыл бұрын
Linval Thompson - Natty Dread Girl (1975) Tommy McCook - Death Trap (1976) I. Roy - War And Friction (1976) However, Yabby you improved the riddim by adding overdubs (Tommy McCook and Iroy), and for me it's almost a different riddim much better than the agravators riddim (Linval)

1976 seems a bit late for "flying cymbals" beat (~1974-75) so I would guess this is NOT original.

Are you sure this has anything to do with the Black Ark?
@BlackArkNuggets6 жыл бұрын
Do I have mortal certainty? No. But I think it's plausible that this was a product of the run of known Yabby You sessions at the Ark including "Judgement On The Land", "Run Come Rally", etc. I'm aware of this rhythm coming from Bunny Lee, including a Tommy McCook instru version. I could be wrong of course, but I believe this is a re-recording and not from those tapes.
@killachunes23496 жыл бұрын
I think its a pure Bunny Lee thing. As you probably know, Lee licensed it to a UK label, Caribbean, as Franco Nero credited to the Skatalites with I Roy's War & Friction as the "A" side. It was probably recorded at Channel One and, of course, mixed at Tubby's.
@ElNumeroUno7774 жыл бұрын
Nothing to do with black ark.its a bunny lee rythm first used for linval thompson. Recorded and mixed at king tubbys. Bunny kept tapes at tubbys for cutting one off dubplate mixes.yabby who was close to tubby prob had access to the tape. If you come compare run come rally and this you can hear a big difference between black ark and tubbs studio. Black ark sound muffled and low fi..tubbs sound clear, wide freq response and characteristic tape delay and high pass filter.
