I used to swim at the ‘Inkwell’ beach as a kid in the 60’s and 70’s. I never heard anyone say anything like this. Maybe in earlier generations?

Fyi...it's not "in" the Vineyard, it's "ON" the vineyard. It's an island. Just a small pet peeve from an islander. Oh,and we loathe when oblahma comes,steals money from many of our businesses and clogs an already overcrowded summer season. We wish they came off season!!!
