People forget that Blackbeard and Luffy are just two sides of the same coin. He may be a disgusting, ruthless, backstabbing bastard, but Blackbeard has the same "magnetism" that helps Luffy bring people to his side. What he doesn't have is loyalty though. The people who follow him aren't the ones who see a better world ahead, they're the ones who think they'll get the best for themselves. Luffy inspires those who believe he'll make the world a better place, Blackbeard inspires those who believe he'll make them rich and powerful. When BB can't give them that anymore (i.e he loses) they'll desert him. In that regard, these two characters couldn't be more dissimilar.

In this scene Blackbeard tells Aokiji that a pirate crew consists out of different people that are chasing the same goal. Rather than being friends or getting along with each other. In the scene where Chopper asks Zoro why he joined Luffy’s crew (in Alabasta). Zoro responds with the exact opposite. Saying that every Strawhat crew member has his own goal separate endgoal. But they are willing to sacrifice themselves for each other while achieving those goals, making them a good “crew”. Therefore joining them. I know what all of this is leading up to. Kuzan, Borsalino, and Sakazuki all embody justice - but they're human.
