Making a fine cutting tool out of cheap materials and scrap pieces, using many of my homemade tools and jigs and various vintage equipment I restored in videos during my years on KZbin!
I forgot to measure the end product on camera so here are the specs:
The blade ended up 145mm long and 45mm at the widest. Overall lentght 255mm, thickness tapered from 3.5mm to zero. Steel is 1070 (aka C70) high carbon steel, differentially heat treated with edge hardness between 50 and 55 Rockwell.
Handle is made of tabilized okumè and olive burl wood, with red (and a line of grey) felt liners, fixed to the tang just by friction in a japanese traditional way with split dowel.
Here are some of the videos where I go in more details about some of the tecniques used in this video:
Stabilizing wood: • Stabilizing Wood With ...
Homemade Liners: • Felt And Resin Liner /...
Dedicated hamon video: • Knife Making: Hamon On...

Hey!!! If you want to know more about any particular process shown in this video be sure to check description, I always write a very detailed list of operations and product used. Also links to related videos that cover specific topics like making felt liners or stabilize wood! And if you like what I do consider supporting me so I can keep on making, join as channel member or check my Patreon for early access and voice-over edit of my videos. Thank you!

nice to see your hammer holding improved, i'd suggest a slightly heavier hammer and a slightly looser grip so your hand lasts longer than till the age of 45

Hi, I am writing through Google a translator from Russian. Please add a spring of small force to the upper stem so that it pulls down. When you hit with a hammer, the rod will not bounce up. You will be comfortable.

heirloom tomatoes are way yummier than your regular cheapo beefsteak tomatoes. but never put it in the fridge, cuse even 10 mins in the fridge causes tomatoes to rapidly lose their volatile compounds responsible for their flavor, making them bland and gross.
