A bladesmith myself I am totally amazed by your skill set. Every part of this build is fantastic. For you to do it all is mind-blowing. As Japanese bladesmithing goes every one is a specialist. Bladesmith, tsuba maker, Saya maker, polisher and more. So many artists are involved in one blade but you are doing it all. Amazing! My hat's off to you with a deep bow.

Unbelievable craftsmanship. This deserved number 1 spot in my opinion. Too many smiths get wrapped up in the intricacies of complex mosaic patterns in their blades, and that's mostly what they focus on. And that's fine. But the historical accuracy and the quality of the fittings and handle in this build were by far the best in the competition, again, in my opinion.

Just excellent. My full endorsement. There are always "functional" things that are also included in these swords. A sharper tip, and one the "river'" flows into the infinity. These swords were also used for piercing but not at the expense of the flow of a slice. Which is the second/third items....the hand guard is to keep your hand from sliding up on the blade. That is it's main job. Not to keep another sword from slicing off your fingers. Even if it were made out of similar steel to the blade would not keep another good sword from slicing through it, or over it, cutting off your fingers (a main target of sword/knife fighting). Third is the guard helps pull the blade out if it gets stuck (in a bone, etc.) If the blade is sharpened all the way down to the guard and does not have unsharpened recesses in it (big enough for gloved fingers), you cannot hook your fingers or hand(s) around it to pull the blade out. Another reason for extra "balls" or hooks at the ends of the guard, is to keep your hands/fingers from sliding off it when pulling it out of something. The pommel shape helps this too as well as counter balance the weight of the blade for smoother slicing, You doen't want the blade to "pull you in" when swinging it. The pommel shape and size also help in two handed stabbing as well. The other hand goes over the end of the pommel to push. These are not critcisms, just other design items that were included in many of these swords.
