The presence of mind of not overheating/burning of the delicate parts of your work is something I still need to incorporate in my forge work. Nice piece!

Using the gas forge with the heat turned down low enough it won't burn the material really helps.

Sir you don't need to excuse yourself for needing your hooks. After your inspiring me now I have 4 sets in my home, Yeah you got my bedroom clothes off the floor and I don't live like a caveman with stuff on my floor, Really enjoy your influence. Made my wife a rake of about a dozen of smaller hooks for scarfs and her stuff, She loves ❤ her set on a steel bracket. Thanks for teaching myself so many skills

Thank you for your videos and all you teach. I blacksmith and bladesmith as a hobby. I work in construction and just turned 40. Do you have any tips to keep you healthy and not wear yourself out as you forge?
@BlackBearForge2 жыл бұрын
Mostly just stay active at it. But don't get tempted to swing too heavy a hammer. With your construction background you probably have reasonable hammer control, but poor technique can cause real problems. As I get older I also find that I embrace power equipment more and more. A power hammer or press can really save wear and tear.

Those coat hooks are beautiful, and I'm going to make a pair or two from some iron scrap in my smithy. Yours are almost Gothic in design, and would be perfect for our old farmhouse. Lovely how the two end scrolls give a start & a finish from the bottom to the top of the bar. I was expecting both on the same side, but this adds a lovely charm as does the aligning of all the horizontal slot holes in the screws with the design. So so much better than a stamped sheet utilitarian piece. Thanks for sharing!

The swage block helps but it can be done at the anvil, just takes more practice. You can also make a simple single purpose swage for use at the anvil.

Up to a point. Trying to use a hammer heavier than you're comfortable with can cause injury. But if you're limited to a very light hammer you will want to work on smaller projects.
