That also means NO THEFT has happened until someone attempts to leave the POS terminal WITHOUT PAYING FOR AN ITEM! This is why you might see some parents walking around a Supermarket, Picking up a Banana or a French Stick, and Letting their children eat it... As long as they keep any "Barcodes" or Labels and scan them at the POS Terminal, There is NO THEFT! They have not yet left the store and showed no intent of NOT being willing to pay... Its a "Technicality" as in legal terms, Yes it is still Theft... But not at the same time.. So there you go... That's WHY! Because UNTIL you have passed that POS terminal, You have NOT formerly committed any crime! Once you reach that point, paid and go to leave... If someone suspects you may have NOT paid for something - they do have a right to detain and search! You have to be attempting to leave... They cant stop you before then!

Tesco don't care, they've changed considerably, for the worse, since Covid. They've stitched up prices, well beyond raw materials increases (don't forget how they also bully farmers), removed value lines and introduced those stupid gates at the entrance... thereby showing their indifference to their customers... who actually PAY their wages. I was in Tesco at Wadebridge last summer when I saw and heard an aggressive "security person", all tooled up with the gillet, SIA card and copious devices hanging off it. He was shouting and belittling a twelve year old girl who was having difficulty getting an exit gate to open. All from his "security lecturn", metres away from the gate. At the customer service desk stood an older female employee smiling at him for shouting at her. I was so incensed I rebuked him and told him he was a bully, picking on a young girl. It was only the 2 second delay on the gate, bloody things! That took the smile off her face. He still works there and is still a surly disagreeable person, and a bully. Hence I now shop at Aldi, across the road! There's always another retailer ready to jump into the gap left by a failing management!... just look at Somerfield, Budgens, Gateway.... In most cases, Tesco is a great example actually - There is Security at teh front of teh store and they RECORD you entering, so they know what you had on entry! It is not normally an issue... I have not watched the full video yet, but under normal circumstances - Tesco staff will only check the Trolley in use, Not your personal Bags UNLESS there is a Genuine Reason to suspect theft! I used to work for Tesco's security in-house for ten years, in Ireland until 2008, we did not have the right of search, even after arrest , we could ask the person to show the bags but they could refuse if they so wished. If they refused we would then call the police, and they could search the person, but as security and staff we didn't have the right to search. Secondly the store detective must show their I.D card if they are the ones stopping the person or in this case where although he has not made the stop he is assisting the staff . member who has. If this happened in any store that I had worked in both staff and security in this case would be in serious trouble more than likely fired , particularly the lady general assistant who made the stop. When I started working for Tesco's the staff and security training were second to none, but I noticed by the time I was leaving the training for both had really gone downhill, and judging by this video , I would say possibly no training at all. I get to hop in as I did the SIA, And had this with an incident at a local bar as well - A Young Lady, Very Drunk and already evacuated from the Premises accosted a Door Supervisor trying to get back in and got thrown to the floor... While I appreciate she did try and barge past him, I do feel that the force used was a little excessive as I was there and witnessed it... ... But its what happened after that relates here! When someone asked for his ID, He COVERED IT WITH HIS HAND! Anytime a Member of the Public Asks to see a Security Officers ID, even if they are plain clothes - WE ARE OBLIGED TO SHOW THEM! IT IS OUR DUTY TO SHOW THEM! And if this man does not have his with him, That his License Suspended! BIG ISSUE THERE!!! Not being on Display is fair enough as he is plain clothes, but not showing it on request - OH NO! THATS AN OFFENCE AND COULD SEE HIM UNEMPLOYED! 11:00 OK! So from what has been said in the video - the Undercover Security Suspects "An Offence" ... The woman may not be happy but the store has a right to stop and search if there is a suspicion of illegal activity! We come back to the same problem - The SIA Officer has NOT SHOWN HIS ID! Which is a breach of PACE Regulations therefore the search is INVALID! 22:51 YOU ARE CORRECT! An SIA officer can ASK if the person minds being searched but CANNOT TOUCH THEM or any Possessions WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION... Only the police can do that! As for the Trolley, The Store Staff or SIA can search that!

Think you might have a caps lock issue there? What you missed, is that if directly employed by the store/supermarket, they don't need an sia licence.
@Phoenix23129 ай бұрын
@@S.Trades That used to be true, but regulations changed! Since 2022, all security staff are required to undergo SIA training. There is even plans for Door-To Door Salesmen and TV License Officers to also be bought under the SIA by 2024.

Having an SIA badge doesn't give anyone any more legal powers than any other non-warranted citizen. He can show all the badges he likes, but if none of them are a warrant card, he has no more right to search someone's bags than anyone else.

The 'training' of SIA personnel is a joke. A 4 day online/ classroom 'Level 2 Award for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry (RQF). TV Licencing are not 'officers' by any legitimate measure; they are self-employed, commission-based, salespersons. The attachment of the word 'officer' is deceptive in both cases.

@@jonwyatt3694 100% agree with the quality of SIA training. Several exposés have been done on it.

Everytime you use self checkout you're a suspect of theft. There are random searches that the computer assigns. The poor staff, usually teenagers, that are assigned to do the anti theft verification obviously feel as uncomfortable as the customer. The whole thing is anti human. Guilty until proven innocent vibe

No no, she messed up and now she's trying to save her job. You can't go hands on with a member of the public WHILE YOU HAVE A SECURITY GUARD NEXT TO YOU

Agree the guy needs to say who he is....also he is touching all the food, he could have covid or any virus on his hands.and what was the point in him touching anything when the woman is already doing that.

Yes reminds me, one night in Asda went through checkout and walked out the store at the same time as several other people. Off went the alarm I had got quite away from the store and a security guard escorted myself and trolley back into the store. The alarm did not respond as he pushed the trolley through he tested it several times and had me walk through as well. A very quick search of shopping and receipt and an apology and told me to carry on. I wasn't having that I gave him 2 choices,1st full refund 2nd he pushed the trolley to my car and loaded the shopping while I sat in the driving seat

There is no expectation of privacy in a public place. A supermarket IS a public place, therefore recording within is 100% legal, despite staff protest. Store policy doesn't trump the law!

Breaking store policy means you can be removed from the premises though . . .

Looking at this video, it seems that the lady is still within the confines of the self service tills. I thought they had to wait until you left the store before they could search.
@rogerkangaroo61189 ай бұрын
They have to wait until you leave before they can accuse you of theft. But 'can we just check you have not accidentally forget to pay for something' is something different.

By the length of the receipt it looks clear that the customer has paid.

15:17 "It's a scan-dal" 😆thanks so much for that. Made my whole day!
@Fifury1619 ай бұрын
I thought the self scan was an awesome time saver and signed up for it when it arrived at our local. Sadly every single time I was stopped and told it was a random check. I had no problem with this, however the time saved by doing my own scanning was outweighed by the "random" checks, so I stopped using that and just go through the regular checkout now. It's a pity as I liked to confirm the price of the items as I put them in the trolley.
@derekheeps12449 ай бұрын
I only ever use these self scan tills if I've just popped in for a handful of things , and absolutely never use those handheld scan-as you go devices . If more than a small basket of shopping I always go to a proper checkout .
@stranobikes8 ай бұрын
Presumably using self-checkout and putting goods in your own bags as you scan them removes the store's ability to 'check your trolley'.

What more criminal is when freezers break and food fully defrosts, instead of wasting it food gets put on delivery vans and drivers are told to only refund it if the customer notices.

What I find amazing about this video is that I, as a mere retired Constable in the RUC, ( NI police force), still remember all my legal definitions. I was always one step ahead of your talking points. We were so well taught in Enniskillen police college that I was surprised that I was well ahead of two barristers.😅 It also helped that I was a retail manager before joining the police in 1981. I never, ever, lost a prosecution because I took the time to study what I was taught at the time. Today's police services around the UK are an embarrassment! I love your channel because I can still relate to the criminal aspects; not so much the civil bits. In my day there were 56 different ways to be commit theft. Keep this channel going.😊

Many years ago i was down on my luck and was selling the Big Issue outside of Tesco's. This African security guard came out and told me to move, i told him this was a spot that people sold Big Issues all the time. He then pushed me hard in the chest and i went back flying and ended up on the floor. I didn't complain because i was just a homeless junkie. Security guards are jumped up like Hitler's

There was one like that in a Co-op near to where I live a few years ago. The security guard was patting down customers' clothes after they had paid for their goods and were heading towards the door. He tried to do it to one young man and got put flat on his fat arse. He was somewhat overweight. The police were called and decided that it was self-defence and the security guard had overstepped the mark.
