Thanks, Ronnie

Besides having to deal with people's constant "is BlackBerry still around? digs, you have to own the KEY2 mindset. My experience has been that it's about productivity first, long-form docs/ blog post and reaching less for your laptop where you crave that tic tic keyboard. Its now on the phone. The camera is not horrible but certainly not great. For the insta-snapchat-gen wanting the latest iPhone, it doesn't compete. But its not the market they are after. Most tech media forgets that. This is very business first and oh, it can also be used to insta your cappuccino. Always love to see your perspective!

daydreaming nightdreaming Just like with anything niche, they aren't supposed to sell like "the big players." Those players you mention try to target as many people as possible by all selling you the fastest phone with the best screen and highest quality camera and so on. Everything I see that happens with Apple or Samsung or whatever all amount to the same things with differences amounting to gimmicky things like changing your face into some kind of cartoon animal or some such. What I've noticed about every BlackBerry phone I've ever used is that two things always seem to take priority: productivity and security. Generally speaking, their screen isn't as good as the supposed competition, nor is the camera, nor is the media/game capabilities. What is usually better are things like battery life and efficiency in doing things while wrapping it all in a security focused blanket. Maybe BlackBerry could have done the shotgun approach had they done things differently earlier on, but I'm actually glad they didn't. Being in the position they're in forces them to take a more focused approach. That approach isn't going to be on the media-centric users. They get that from every other phone on the planet. They aren't going to target the selfie artists or other budding photographers. They already tried that and it didn't really work. The absolute biggest thing anyone goes to BlackBerry for is their physical keyboard. A physical keyboard encompasses an entire mindset of functionality over fashion. Those who want to type more accurately, who want shortcuts or the ability to type without looking, who want feedback of each press so they know for certain they actually typed something. Not many people care about that stuff. typng w bad spllng & grammar not 4 bb users. That is for everyone else who uses a touch screen. BlackBerry users care about communication and security, about productivity on the go. I could care less if I can't watch a youtube video at 4k resolution on my phone or take better photos than my competition on Instagram or be able to take that slow motion video of whatever. I barely watch youtube on my phone and I use Instagram almost never, or any other social media offering for that matter. My social media includes phone calls, SMS, BBM with my family, and shaking another person's hand. I manage bills and expenses. I email and research and I educate myself. The physical keyboard helps me do all those things much more efficiently and accurately and why I continue to be a BlackBerry fan today.
@LironSegev6 жыл бұрын
when you upload to any social media it tries to give the users the best quality based on the bandwidth. I could film in 4k and upload to KZbin, but most people will see it at 720p on their phone.

I own and love the KEYone and will definitely get the KEY2 as well, my reasons are * The Keyboard: It is uniquely satisfying, it may not be faster in perfect English, but it is certainly faster if you write a lot of symbols or stuff like that * The Experience: I love the Blackberry Ecosystem and haven't found something better than the Hub or the BB Calender * Battery life: I don'T need a gaming CPU in a smartphone, I want it snappy enough to not annoy me but more than anything else I don't want to think about charging my device during the day * Looks: In a world where nearly all smartphones look alike, this is a welcome diversion :) So after a year of loving my KEYone I'll switch over to the KEY2 :)

I've gotten almost every BlackBerry since my Bold 9900 and I'm still going to keep that up! The keyboard, the overall design of the phones, the security, the nostalgia; just too many things to let go. Though I am not using a Blackberry device, I used to own a few BlackBerry devices and let me tell you that I was never disappointed with them. The physical keyboards made it so much easier to type and edit as compared to an on-screen keyboard. Although I want a high spec phone, I wouldn't want to give up a chance to have a physical keyboard again.

Dived into a BB Key2 about a month ago. Getting back into a physical keyboard is definitely a challenge after my last full time keyboard phone was a BB Bold 9800. Physical keyboards, if they're well designed, are superior to glass / virtual keyboards because of muscle memory. After a while you don't have to look at the keyboard to type because you learnt the location of each key through the tactile feel. Writting long emails becomes a breeze and far less tiresome.

Been using my K2 for about 10 days now, came from the Pixel 2 XL. No regrets, love this phone, love the keyboard and love how it makes sliding around apps and tools so easy. Just the camera let's it down and even that isn't that bad.

Thank you for your honest review. I'm pretty fanatical about the keyboard too, but based on reviews done by yourself and your colleagues, I just can't justify $650 for a "good phone with a keyboard" when I can get a great phone (Pixel 2) for the same price. You are lucky that you have the luxury to carry to phones, but as an average consumer if I'm going to pay $650 for an item, it will be because it's the only tool that I need. I'm going to get the Pixel 2, but I will keep an eye out for an after-the-buzz update for the keytwo and whatever else Blackberry can come up with.

I honestly want this phone. I have said it before and will say it again this is a good phone for school and for my studies as a nursing student where media isn't a real necessity. Having something like this for work is just awesome.

I still miss physical face buttons on phones. Imagine if we got a slide out keyboard for these bigger phones! Maybe even with a mini input display line on it too so you can see what you are typing in vertical only apps without the need to turn your head.

Like think about it, you know those small BlueTooth keyboards, well my S6 is about the same size, and my little BlueTooth keyboard is fine to type on too so why its not a thing yet beats me xD

I just picked up a KeyONE a few days ago from ebay for about $170 after having never used a phone with anything more than a touchscreen (I'm only 17, first phone was an HTC One) and I already love the keyboard! My Pixel XL is still my main phone but I agree it's a great second phone with a few quirks, and I can see how the KeyTWO would be even better.

Michael Fisher has honest, clear concise reviews. It's like he knows what I want to hear about a phone and dispenses with the garbage.

I am currently using the BlackBerry key2 LE and it's so beautiful. I am so much fast at typing and I do not mind at all that I have to use two hands. If I need to use one hand, I will just do talk to text. I will never use another phone again if I can help it. I don't mind the camera at all. The battery is at 69% right now and it's almost 7pm where I live. Did I mention this is also a refurbished phone? Even as a refurbished phone, it is phenomenal. I've used many phones but none compare to this BlackBerry. I hope they never go out of business because I am stuck on them for life.

They announced that they're gonna stop producing devices later this year. The KEY2 and LE are the last BlackBerry's ever made. Enjoy your LE and hopefully a decent keyboard device will come some time in the future.

Well, this phone had me excited. But this review def mellowed me out quite a bit. Not to say it was bad, I always enjoy your review style. I just don't really care about the camera the same way you do. 99% of the time, I take a quick photo and go. And I can't remember the last time I took a video of anything. What does give me pause is that darker screen. I don't do much outdoor anything these days, but sometimes I do need to be able to read the phone in direct sunlight. The only other thing I'm concerned about is that scrolling inconsistency. Getting used to a feature, then having that feature not function or function in the reverse would be [i]very[i/] annoying to me. This review def gave me some food for thought. Thanks for your point of view!

I think one thing that people miss about the difference btwn the key2 vs other phones is that you save time with key2. I have an iPad so I know how iPhone works more or less. I can save quite a few minutes when I can use the shortcuts on a k2 vs say an iPhone. On iPhone, you have to scroll thru a few menus before you get to where you go. with the shortcuts, I can do it with one key and I'm where I wanted. The time saved and aggravation. Sure, it is $ 100 more but the stress and time you need to get things done well worth that $ 200 difference for me. I wasn't about to buy the k2 for at least another year but my k1 was stolen and i choose k2 as a replacement. I am sure glad I did.

Best review out there. Loved this type of review. Kudos to mentioning useful info such as typing with one hand

Hi Michael, you solidified my choice for my next upgrade. I currently own a KeyOne and switching over from my iPhone was the hardest thing for me. But boy am I glad! The only thing I wish the BB had was a better camera, rest is superlative.

Just wiped my K1 and it's fast again! Maybe I'll wait 6 months to see if the price goes down some for the key2

This thing coming out actually made me finally put the 399 (latest discount) and grab a keyone (ordered one at launch, then 2 days later JerryRig put out the screen separation vid, so I returned it immediately; then tried it a couple months later but found almost everything about the experience inferior to my Priv, the smaller screen, bottom firing speaker, even keyboard - I'm in the minority, I guess, of people who are perfectly fine w Priv's smaller keys). Keyone: - love the power button on the left, I keep my phones in my left pocket and use it more often w my left hand. Also it makes it look even more different and unique, and I find phones w all their buttons on one side to look like they're just missing something. - love how the keyboard is pushed (almost squished) to the bottom while still having a little chin. Few things are as satisfying as contrasting the conversation view of say a txt message, and pointing out just how much screen is lost on other phones due to their software keypads. - love the industrial, heavy duty top. The key2 (much like the Motion) are def sleeker, but again - less unique and now you can't even pluck your phone up from the top w out rolling down the notif shade. - love the design, the little chrome frets that run between they keys and actually bite a little into the phone's sides, the large camera bezel, the soft and smooth curvature around the sides (not chamfered angles like on key2). After buying the Moto g5+ last year, I've been doubly spoiled by features that are bang for buck (that front facing speaker and 5.2" screen, both similar to my Priv) and just can't find myself paying 649 (or 700+ for the 128gb that's coming) for features I never asked for (like a dual cam that the Pixel proved is really a gimmick unless you go the P20 Pro route to make it a signature feature). In Nov of 2015 I dished out 699 for my Priv because it was a truly special, unique offering. The next phone I'd pay that much for better have *outstanding* features - like the Mate 9 or the Razer phone, both of which I tried, but still couldn't replace my daily driver Priv/budget Moto g5+ combo.

The first one had a lot of issues at launch and I personally had to send mine back for a repair/replacement at least 3 separate times. This might be worth a revisit a year down the line after some software updates, refinements in TCL's supply chain, and a much MUCH needed price drop.

Beautiful Blackberry Key2, I like the fact that Blackberry still have the SD card slot. Blackberry use to be a popular business phone in the early 2000, as popular as Apple and Samsung.

Great review as always. If you like a physical keyboard, to me it's the best one I've ever used on a smartphone. Been waiting since 2012 to say there's a better keyboard than the BlackBerry Bold 9900's... finally there is!
