I thought that for once I found a resonable and balanced review of a BlackBerry device, in this case the Leap, which I own. And...then at the end you went on and crash landed rendering the review biased and narrowminded... You said the phone doesn't do enough to grab your attention?!?! What exactly should it do...blow you?! It's a device, an entry level, to mid-tier smarphone aimed at professionals and people like myself who don't want to burn a hole in their pockets buying an all-touch smartphone. Then you went on to say that the Leap is not really a companion for everyday users/consumers because it lacks appeal and charm?!?! First of all of you think that a freaking phone is a "companion", mate...you might have some issues you want to look into...A smartphone is an inanimate object lacking any physical and/or intellectual traits that would qualify it as a companion... That goes for Apple, Samsung and all other devices...The Leap is not my companion, it is a handy tool that allows me to communicate, stay connected and conduct my business with ease and comfort. That's it, I don't have dinner with it and don't sleep with it. The only form of emotional attachment...I don't want to lose it or damage it, because it cost me money...and I have my information on it...that's it! As for it lacking charm and appeal...again your are assigning traits that are not meant to be , to an inanimate object. If you mean it falls short as a device, which you clearly think so because oh I don't know why...you're either and Apple or Google fanboy...whatever, your problem, but let me illuminate you just just same! I bought the Leap and for me it works exactly as I need it to, and I am not a businessman or government worker, but the everyday consumer you are talking to, and apparently trying to dissuade from buying the Leap! I took my Leap to several stores, including Apple, and others selling Windows phones , Android phones, especially Samsung, and compared them to the Leap, especially the "high-end" "flagship" device...and guess what... They don't look that impressive! Especially not worth the high, premium prices they were charging for them...IPhone 6, 6 Plus, and the Galaxy S6 (and all the others before it)... Unlike an Appletard or a Retardroid fanboy, I didn't have to line-up a month ahead of time and spend my rent and food money...on overpriced devices which pretty much serve the exact same functions as the Leap. But I guess if you want to use these devices more as accessories and show everybody else that you have them...well go right ahead! Please, in the future, whenever you review a device, stick to the technical and practical aspects, as you did in this one...and don't shit all over yourself right at the end! When you stick to the script, your reviews are better than the average! If you are an Apple or Samsung/Android fanboy, and for some particular reason hate or dislike BlackBerry just say so. Because as a consumer trying to look at some more impartial or balanced reviews it's tiresome to always end up with the reviewer shitting all over BlackBerry. No matter what these guys do, they will NEVER be to anyone's satisfaction, because of outdated preconceived notions and biases perpetrated by tech-bloggers, on-line sites, mainstream media and tech experts at large! PS And on the camera you forgot a nifty and handy feature called Time Shift, which is quite useful and practical... Good luck to you and all the best.

abcun17 Thank you for the detailed comments and feedback. Pleased to hear that the Leap is the right device for you. Apologies is the conclusion was not how you wished it to be, but we were trying to give a fair and balanced view when taking the market as a whole into consideration. At the end of the day it is just one persons opinion. As you say yourself the majority of the review was balanced. In relation to referring to it as a companion, I can assure you I have no 'issues' but many have a desire for the device they need as a tool to also tick other boxes like style etc because it is such an important piece of equipment in their lives. You obviously see the Leap as a tool and are not worried about the design, but you compared them to other devices and personally made a decision that you were happy, which is great. However, like a jumper, some may buy a cheap jumper with no branding whilst others will buy an expensive one with branding. Both keep you warm, but why do people buy the branded one? Because they like it, suits them better, and forms part of their image. Different users and different needs will ultimately affect ones opinion of the handset and how they conclude. Our aim was to highlight the positive and negatives and try to explain why there were and for what reason. Thanks for leaving such detailed feedback.

Well, that is exactly it. The Leap, as any other device, is just a tool. Nothing more. There is no emotional attachment to them. Any and all traits and characteristics that are associated with any of these devices is entirely subjective and usually the result of advertisements and a culture of consumerism which teaches, nay dictates to people that your, let's say for example, smartphone is somehow an extension of yourself or part of your entourage. But, to each his own, if someone wants to think of his phone as his friend...or as a status symbol...well good for them. But that is not what I'm looking for in a tech review. You also said, and I quote: "However, like a jumper, some may buy a cheap jumper with no branding whilst others will buy an expensive one with branding. Both keep you warm, but why do people buy the branded one? Because they like it, suits them better, and forms part of their image." Again, it is tiresome for a BlackBerry user to get this type of reply, the kind of reply I usually expect from some pundit or talking head on one of those superfluous TV financial shows, people who have a vested interest in continuously bashing BlackBerry with dismissive and negative comments and reviews. No doubt that the company has earned some of the bashful reproaches it gets through its own fault. But there is reasonable criticism and then there is beating a dead horse just because...it is in fashion...or I don't know what...The thing is just that many of the reviews I get on KZbin about ANY BlackBerry products, inevitably lead to some similar comments like the one above...some snide remark or snarky comment...just as a reminder that IF somehow you are stupid enough to buy a BlackBerry device...well its your loss! Remember that the value of a brand is mostly an artificial construct...oftentimes peddled by vested financial interests, which oftentimes have little to do with the reality of a company's worth, innovation, development etc. For example I find that people are horribly misinformed about BlackBerry's device portfolio, it's operating system, it's software etc. People still think of BlackBerry as if it's still 2008...Surely BlackBerry itself is at fault for this. And I don't expect it to be your duty to persuade people otherwise. But what I would like to see is a techie sticking to the review of the device at hand. The good and the bad, the positive and the negative. But eschewing comments about "charm" and "appeal"...and a branded jumper versus a generic one. As I've said, if you or anyone else for that matter, has some personal issue with BlackBerry (I don't know maybe you used to work for them and they fired you, or you lost stock...or you are an Android die-hard), I wish people would just say so at the outset , then I could take their review with a grain of salt. Not too much to ask, I think. And I am not singling you out I mind you. I mean this as a general rule of thumb. I chose to comment here in particular, because I thought that this was a good product review...which ended up undone by the same predictable BlackBerry put downs... I certainly don't expect some positive drone-like BlackBerry fanboy review of the Leap. Not at all. And just a reminder about brands. Apple is everybody's favourite tech golden child...people of all stripes sing it's praises and worship at the altar of the sometimes cult-like company, while regarding Steve Jobs with the reverence reserved for some technological neo-deity. But in the late 90's, early 2000's, mighty Apple was at death's door, much like BlackBerry was a few years ago. They only survived because Microsoft threw them an lifeline (Bill Gates must be still pulling his hair out for that) and Jobs came back from his "exile"... All that is cyclical, and today Apple's brand seems invincible and untouchable...but nothing lasts forever, especially in the cutthroat, competitive world of technology. There is a reason HBO's "Silicon Valley" is soo good and on point...

Really sad that Blackberry didn't comprehend that the app library was the key to smartphones. Their OS was superior, no one else's OS could run on such light hardware. Not even know.

They need to build a reasonably high-end all touch phone. This one is clunky, heavy and ugly. The screen has QC issues (light bleeding) and the processor is straight from the very old Z10. If they'd just build a slick, high end phone that's not a bizarre niche device (Passport), they might actually have something.
