Absolutely! That's why I'm here. I watched Danny's 'The Ridge'....and I thought: "what is this amazing music playing in the background? It's magic!" Slowly building....and building up into a big symphonic finale. It's great! I'm Irish, but I have to say.....UP SCOTLAND!!

I was brought here by Danny Macaskill's video of: The Ridge. And as I was watching his video, I thought to myself what is this *amazing* music going on in the background?....it's immensely powerful So after a bit of research, that brought me all the way to here....to this great peice of music. And I've since found out all about Martyn Bennett and his music. I'm Irish....but I have to say what a great *Scottish* composer he was! *RIP Martyn Bennett.*

I sadly had forgotten Martyn Bennett's name, but wanted to hear one of his songs. Typed a bunch of historical facts I could think of into AI, and it retrieved his name... and my YT search brought me here. I had never heard this performance before. It is fantastic. The musicians truly did justice to this beautiful song. Funny looking at comments, who most appear to be here from a cultural reference I do not know... Doesn't matter, as I'm glad we all can appreciate this song!

Thanks so much for this! I love the sound of the vocalist's voice, and it brought up the same emotional response in me that others experienced. But I couldn't really understand the words until you provided the transcription. I thought, "Oh, she's singing in Scottish Gaelic! How beautiful!" Now that I know what she's saying, I'm now thinking to myself, "No, you ignorant bastard, she's singing in SCOTS!"

What a voice, what a voice, what a voice I hear, It's like the voice of my Willie dear. An if I had wings like that swallow high I would clasp in the arms of my Billy boy. When my apron it hung low My true love followed through frost and snow. But now my apron is tae ma chin; He passes me by and he'll ne'er speir in. It's up and doon yon white hoose brae, He's called a strange girlie to his knee An he's telt her a tale that he's once told me. There is a blackbird sits on yon tree, Some says it is blind and it cannae see. Some says it is blind and it cannae see And that's what my true love's tae me. Oh I wish, I wish, oh I wish in vain, I wish I was a maid again. But a maid again I will never be 'Til a apple it grows on a orange tree. I wish, I wish my babe was born An smiling on some nurse's knee. An for myself to be dead and gone An the long green grass growing over me.
