"I wrote 'These Days' before I met Gregg. He heard me play the song when we were first friends, I guess we were probably both 18," Jackson Browne tells Blackbird about Gregg Allman in this concert clip. "The way he did that song completely changed it, I think for me and for everybody... I could write a song like that but when it came time to singing it, Gregg really gave it a kind of graveness and gravity that the song can hold." Relive the magic of Gregg and Jackson performing "These Days" together for the first time, right here.

After Gregg's funeral, Jackson wanted to play, somewhere. He went to a place called Grant's Lounge, where the Brother's and everyone else played back in the'70's. He may have for all I know, was too young to go back then. Folks had a real shock that night. The talent that came there, for Gregg's memory was amazing. Thank Jackson. That was appreciated by everyone who just happened to be there that night. Adding, being Gregg's friend was not an easy thing for a long time. Have had some friends like that myself. Jackson is on helluva good man, will leave that there.

Look at that inherent and obvious love, admiration and respect of Jackson Browne for Gregg Allman. On Gregg's last album before he died ( "Southern Blood" ), Jackson was the only person he asked to contribute to the album and it was on "Song for Adam" written by Jackson. Gregg meant it to be a tribute to his brother Duane who died at 26. " He stopped his singing in the middle of his song". During Gregg's lifetime , he recorded four of Jackson's songs.

This is a treasure of a video, for the song, the performance, and these warm and immensely talented pioneers of the rock generation. [spoiler alert, I'm going to offer a subjective opinion many may not appreciate...] Gregg's departure from the original closing line leaves out what I really believe is one of the most inspiring lyrics in the whole song... "...don't remind me of my failures, I had not forgotten them." To this day, at age 68, I simply cannot imagine how at 16 years of age, Jackson found this song and brought it out for all the rest of us. Perhaps even more remarkable, with dementia slowly consuming him, Glenn Campbell broke free long enough to leave us with one of his greatest performances of this masterpiece. To this day, I am grateful to have been born in 1952, and lived through what may turn out to be humankind's last golden age, side-by-side with these great artists.

I had a small connection to the ABB and that music is still so worthy of praise. Gregg's voice is so emotional, on every song. I read Gregg's biography and I'd highly recommend it cause it tells how he and his brother Duane worked so so so hard to learn their musical sound. Just playing constantly before the band formed and learning their craft. It's a good read and Jackson is in the book in several stories. Just two very talented artists, the likes I doubt we'll see again any time soon.

This just MAGIC, as I've loved BOTH versions of this song by them since the very day they were first released! I REALLY love the pedal steel on Gregg's studio version, it just fits with his voice so perfectly. But, this slide player, Jack Pearson, is doing a GREAT job with the breaks/solos.👍

Jack Pearson on slide guitar, masterful. One of the mainstays in Gregg’s touring and recording bands for years. Jack is one of the greatest guitar players I’ve ever seen. He flies under the radar of the well known and more splashy Southern guitar players but he’s as good, if not better, than most of them. Beautiful taste and tone.
