#BlackLivesMatter #BLM
Maybe the media storm surrounding #BlackLivesMatter has calmed down, but this topic is still very much alive in our hearts. We've had many long conversations about racism and its consequences and were wondering what would be the best way for us to support the movement. In the end, we decided to write a song about it.

Lyrics:
black lives matter
black lives matter
black lives matter
black lives matter
This song is for the black community.
Our black friends, black families, colleagues, neighbors , strangers.
I am / We are so grateful to have been on stage with numerous black musicians and are honored to call them our friends as well.
Countless black awesome musicians have shaped the music industry and are a true inspiration.
black lives matter
black lives matter
black lives matter
black lives matter
I can't pretend to know what it’s like to be black,
to get in trouble just because of my skin color.
This injustice and violence is worse than fiction.
After all this time, why is the system still flawed?
How can we make this world a better one?
If there's a way to change the system then lets do that.
Then let’s just do that.
black lives matter
black lives matter
black lives matter
black lives matter
We can’t rewrite history
but we can educate our children and grandchildren
that black lives matter.
It’s our responsibility to break the existing pattern.
It’s not only up to the others. It's up to you. It's up to me.
Together we stand,
divided we fall.

This song is actually quite brilliant for the subject matter. It starts with a basic 3-note arpeggiated D minor chord and one person whispering “black live matter” -- a simple idea set to words and music. Each chorus is nothing more that these three words repeated 4 times. Each verse consists of heartfelt spoken words by the artists themselves. Eventually, that single whispered voice grows to 5 people whispering in unison. The same Dm chord is played on the piano, but now with a triangle added in the background as percussion. The simple idea that “Black Lives Matter” is in essence a meme (not in the vernacular, but in the original sense of the word) as an idea, behavior, style, or usage that spreads from person to person within a culture. As the piece progresses, one of the voices actually sings the root note of the chord while the others continue to whisper without pitch. As with every successful meme, eventually someone becomes the first to really codify it by reinforcing it with their individual voice, much as the founders of the BLM movement did when they started using the hashtag. In the next section, that single melodic voice now has a double, an octave actually, as the rest continue to whisper. I see this as the meme taking root in society as common interests align, and allies form to reinforce the message. The final chorus results in the culmination of all five voices in acapella with a wonderfully rich chord, now singing “BLACK LIVES MATTER” seven times with ritardando, gradually decreasing the tempo as the message becomes permanent and transformative to the individual and to society. The chords and lead strings that Emoción plays during the spoken verses are wonderfully sad and yet hopeful at the same time. It should also be noted that about halfway through the song the percussion begins to take the form of a heartbeat… a rhythm so profound and so pure that connects us all. Bravo, Emoción! You’re right: black lives do matter… all of them.

I’m not here to write you a thesis on racism stats, you can google that or read a book. I’m saying that your commenting on someone’s project negating their statement is ignorant, and proves my point. BLM isn’t proposing stripping white people of their rights, it’s proposing equality. If you’re afraid of equal rights then maybe you’re benefitting from their oppression.

@@christinasmith8108 ALMA is the moral premise 300 years of societal progress in western society has been molded by. If you focus on what divides society, you get division; if you focus on what we have in common, we improve understanding and empathy, which is a sound basis to continue to create a more perfect union. Oppression requires an intent to oppress, which the large majority of Americans do not have. Therefore it cannot be the correct lense to analyze current affairs with. Furthermore, which black mayor, or which black president, or which black police officer and business owner would argue today that black people do not have equal rights, nor equal opportunity? Yes, one can argue that inequality in America exists, but this inequality does not follow racial divides. The millions of white Americans in trailer parks or living on the streets of Los Angeles would disagree with that assertion. The best solution is to rally around specific policies with specific end goals, which BLM does not have and is unable to formulate. If one looks at the BLM website, they are asking to disband the nuclear family. Really now? This and other proposals of an even more radical streak, do not stroke with the anti-police violence and police-reform movement they started out as and which were broadly supported. As a result of this emerging radical agenda, BLM no longer merits a broad support, because their proposals are unable to persuade a majority of citizens. The best thing for minority groups to do in a democratic society is to target very specific policy goals. BLM is not (yet) doing that in a constructive manner. The longer they tarry (and it has been years), the more likely they will peter out.
