BlackMagic ATEM Mini Chroma Key Setup | Corporate Streams

I was watching another video on chroma setup and it suggested two tips. First was to set up the chroma hue by removing everything from in front of the screen and then sample. The second was to make the sample area at least as large as the area where the subject would be sitting. I tried this and it worked well. Your point on the back lighting encouraged me to go out and get a light to back fill behind the subject. It also worked well. THANKS!

Yes, but it needs to be coming from another camera input on the switcher.

Yes! You just have to get a good handle on when to use upstream keys or downstream keys

Question for you, if my background was a Viewsonic touchscreen ID2456 and I had a complete black background and I can annotate with it can that be done? So me in foreground and I annotate in background like a digital light board. Thank you for any reply

Yes, the key is harder with black however. Using green or blue will give you a better result compared to black. This is because black is a more common color across objects (watches, hair, etc) while green and blue used for keying are less common. That and a pigment or color being used for a key tends to isolate better than black. Black is represented by the absence of all 3 colors (RGB) in a digital medium. Hope that makes sense.

@@CorporateStreams so green screen,( which I like the Reflectmedia setup) as my background, me in foreground, then I key the green to say black or another color then I can write on it like a digital whiteboard. Is that correct? On a side note. I enjoy your videos. I purchased a prompter people pro line teleprompter after watching your review. Have you ever done a review with Reflectmedia Chromatte? Would love to see that with the Atem mini pro If you can do a review that would be fantastic Right now I am using the Epiphan Pearl 2 with 4k add on, 2 Sony FS5 MK2s along with a Viewsonic ID 2456 for annotations. I also have the Prompter People pro line I use for zoom calls with the epiphan bringing in guest thru SRT and UNO overlays. My only complaint is on the Pearl your in a box when you want to do a split screen or upper third and full view of the Viewsonic. With the ATEM it seems way nicer the way you presented it. @TheGoldenTriangleAcademy the ultimatte is better quality, but with the atem mini’s you’re only going to see 1080p not 4k.

Hey Noah thank you for your video, what happen if you switch between channels? Lets say you have chroma set up in chn 1 but you want to swtich to chn 2 and then back to chroma in 1. Do you have to make all the process to active chroma again? I do live streams with my Atem and have to switch channels back and for, I just want chroma in channel 1. Thanks again!

I’d look into Macro’s since there’s typically only 1 keyer on the smaller ATEMs and switching between the two may require to reset the key settings.

Hey Noah, this helped clear a few things up but I am new to black magic and trying to learn more. Let me explain what I am trying to do. We have a sports livestream channel at our School on KZbin and we are now trying to implement live graphics. I am wondering if there is a way I can take a live graphics keyed up in a full screen chrome browser with a green background and take HDMI out to put it on the atem mini as a camera input. Do you understand what I am talking about? I am more than happy to get on an email or text chain with you.

yes, your green screen only has to cover the parts of the person you're cutting out. as far as it being "full screen" that will be more contingent on the background you put it over. Did I answer your question?

So its not possible to have a video source (like a HDMI-input) as a background behind me (as a subject)? I have a Mini PRO ISO, trying to get rid of the need of OBS Studio.

Yes you can do that with just the ATEM and without OBS studio. You can follow along with the video and do what I did with the computer but instead of the computer being your background you can make the HDMI video source your live background.

'Upstream key' is a term invented by BM, it's not a broadcasting term and it doesn't get it's name from being 'on top'.
