11:35 So if you're shooting 4K in ProRes, you don't necessarily need to crop. On the second page on the Record tab, the "Sensor Area" option allows you to choose between 6K, 5.7K, etc. so long as you have ProRes 4KDCI/UHD/HD selected. The camera will record at the resolution you have selected in the Sensor Area option and then downsample to 4K. Because you can specify using the entire sensor, there is no crop when shooting 4K ProRes. Now if only Resolve friggin' supported ProRes RAW...

A lot of good info but a couple things are incorrect and I think it is important to clear it up for everyone. 1. You can shoot in 1080 HD and UHD (3840x2160) using the full 6k sensor readout (I use it all the time) 2. Your definition of phantom power is incorrect. Phantom power sends power from your device over the XLR line so you don’t need batteries to power your microphone. But overall great video 👍🏼 thanks for sharing!
@GearFocus4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Jacob! We plan on updating this video in the near future to correct some of the things in the video. We've used this camera ton more so we've learned some things since then. As far as the phantom power thing goes, it is not a battery replacement method as you describe above. Phantom power is a +48V electrical current that runs across the diaphragm of a microphone, in turn making it more sensitive. We tried to simplify the definition for this video since this was about the camera and was already long enough. If it's something that people would like to see, Matt and I can use our combined 15 years of recording studio experience to give some tips and tricks for filmmaking. is this something that you and others would like to see?

First thanks for the tutorial, very in depth. However there is one thing, Phantom Power is not an “enhancement” as I perceived you to convey by applying electricity across the capsule of a microphone. It is actually a power source for condenser microphones that +48v of power to operate. Dynamic mics do not require phantom power. In the context of in set sound some shotgun mics remove the need for phantom power by having a battery, and some use phantom power.
@GearFocus4 жыл бұрын
Yes you are correct in that statement. Since audio is a relatively complex science, I chose not to go in depth with phantom power and explaining the difference between dynamic and condenser microphones. If an audio explanation is something that is wanted here on the channel, we would be happy to use our resources to better educate everyone on audio. Both Matt and Dan have backgrounds in music and audio production so this could be accomplished rather quickly.

@GearFocus4 жыл бұрын
Yes you would be able to do that via the 3.5mm Jack. I oftentimes will have multiple sources routed within the camera, such as the Lav mic in one channel and then a room or scratch mic into another channel. As long as you have a timecode generator, you should be able to do timecode via the 3.5mm jack. Hope that helps!

@GearFocus4 жыл бұрын
You can set your project frame rate to your desired frame rate and that will give the flexibility you need in post. For instance, if I wanted to film in 4K60 but not have the slowmo playback, I would just set the project frame rate to 60fps. Hope that answers your question!!

@@JE2PO It looks like right now, the only way to record 120fps is at 2.8K using the off speed frame rate. You can make your project up to 60fps, but unfortunately the only way to get 120 fps is by using the off-speed frame rate options. Maybe we will see an update to that in firmware updates.

Dan here. Unfortunately, no. The HDMI output does not have the menu system on it. Just to add some clarification to your comment about 48V phantom power, it's to power condenser microphones, and some active ribbon mics, it's not necessary for dynamic mics. You also have to be careful not to phantom power some non-active ribbon mics as you will damage them.
@GearFocus4 жыл бұрын
You definitely don't want to add phantom power to a non-active ribbon mic. That will lead to a bad time. I don't see most video people using ribbon mics though. Most don't have an audio background like us ;) Thanks for watching John!
