If you want to experience the real bamboo rafting, you have to go to the Rio Grande in Portland Jamaica. The rafting in Mobay was created for tourist because the journey to Portland is too long for most tourist. Rafting was used originally to transport bananas to the coast for export. Errol Flynn, the Hollywood actor, made rafting popular for tourist.

One thing I’ve noticed in Jamaica is the food prices are similar to that of in the Uk which I can’t understand?
@InfoSpectrum8766 ай бұрын
It all depends on the areas, and where you shop. Prices are higher in and around the tourist areas. The food you buy in the supermarket will also be more expensive than if you go to the market. It's all about knowing how things work.
@rolandbishop66106 ай бұрын
@@InfoSpectrum876 so much of the food is grown there also so no excuses tho . Jamaica not the only one tho who overprice for tourists but hey . Thailand now you get sone great prices over there very cheap
@InfoSpectrum8766 ай бұрын
@@rolandbishop6610 Everybody pays the same prices when they shop in these areas, and you can't compare prices in the Caribbean islands to Thailand, for a whole lot of reasons. Overall, the Caribbean isn't cheap, so if you're looking for a cheap holiday, Thailand is more suited for you.
@rolandbishop66106 ай бұрын
@@InfoSpectrum876 in the Uk we use the excuse that “ it cost allot to fly in these goods from abroad fruit and so on “ I just wonder what excuses they have in Jamaica?. To think the min wage is around £75 a week in Jamaica And the average wage is £145 Mybe the higher prices should be giving to the people because something don’t add up
@InfoSpectrum8766 ай бұрын
@@rolandbishop6610 The minimum wage is JM$14,000 (I'm not in England so I'm using JM$). Salaries range from $JM24,400pw (lowest average) to JM$430,000pm (highest average. Median salary is JM$88,000pm. Every sector and profession pays different, and salaries vary drastically between different careers. Just because it says "minimum wage" doesn't mean that's what everyone is paid, it's that you cannot pay anyone lower than that. Additionally, Jamaicans earning less than JM$1.5 Mil pa doesn't pay any income tax.There's more to the cost of food than we pay at the shop. Producing, processing and transporting creates costs all along the value chain, many are borne by society as a whole or by communities and regions. Transporting the goods to markets is a huge factor in the prices, couple with the fact that foods grown in Jamaica is organic. Anything that is not produced in Jamaica will also cost more because of the exchange rate, duties, etc. It is an island afterall, so you will find that is a recurring theme when you travel to island nations. Things in Jamaica might be expensive but there are countries way more expensive.

Jamaicans need to stop reinforcing this negative stereotype which already exists. Stop repeating negative hearsay stereotypes about poorer areas.
@kwacou42796 ай бұрын
Those stereotypes are often true. I've been to Flankers and stayed for 3 days. I'm Jamaican from Santa Cruz and have never been to a garrison community before. It can be scary, but most people living in those areas are kind and giving. Sad they have to live amongst a criminal element.
@cleo631006 ай бұрын
@@kwacou4279Criminal elements exist in every country and every society, but the biased media like to shine a bright light on Jamaica and single it out for its negative portrayal. It’s almost tantamount to bullying a small island that is progressing in the right direction and making strides to better the place . I’ve seen videos in parts of Europe with sone of the worst areas on the planet but they don’t go out of their way to portray those countries and areas in the same way that they like to portray Jamaica. They focus on the small percentage negative and overlook the more than 99% positive, often with the assistance of Jamaicans such as that man and people like yourself. Highlight the positive - do not always focus on negativity.
