One queencell is correct. Years ago when starting I left more and bees in Ireland tended to swarm out till they were tini colonies.

Hi Lawrence, great your new queen was successfully mated I don’t know how it’s been in your part of the country but I’ve had a stinker of a season especially early on in the year getting virgin queens mated with the bad weather we had in May, I think I killed maybe 8 duds the bees killed another 6 which I found on there landing boards and 6 of the mated queens I had bought 4 of them where superseded it has been a strange season for sure. Wow mate that colony of yours was massive even when you did your split you ended up with 2 big hives yes your method of splitting hives is the same procedure as I do my own. Great vlog mate thx for taking us along with you at your apiary.

@@BlackMountainHoney sure is, 2021 early season was definitely a eye opener with me I’ve never had so many problems with queens in all my 9 years beekeeping let’s see what next season has in store for us. Thx for your reply Lawrence mate.

I just did a walk away when I found two cells .. came back later and there was a bunch more … I remember someone saying the queens will fight it out and the strongest will survive

Great video and wow what an amazing hive, just wondered what you would have done if you had have found queen cells in with the original queen after you had split? Would you get away with just knocking them down? Keep up the good work 👏 ab thanks for another great video
@BlackMountainHoney3 жыл бұрын
Good point. I'd definitely just knock them down and take the risk that the urge to swarm will subside very quickly with reduced numbers

@@BlackMountainHoney thanks i cop it from other people in my area saying its too much checking ect but i like to check them regularly. If you check every week does it make the colony more deffensive
@rickmonarch45526 ай бұрын
How many colonies do you have? Is it time efficient? We have 340 colonies, we remove swarm cells every 6 days for them. Do you think I should do this instead next year?
@mytube86303 жыл бұрын
Still hear everything . Wondering do u use a smoker at all ?

We do but makes no difference on a colony with this many bees that are disorientated. Just lots of bees

I've watched twice. Not sure what you mean at the beginning when you say ' face the two hives the same way '. Are you talking about the entrances?

yes
@richardsydenham41053 жыл бұрын
I would say that was a normal split !! an artificial swarm would be put on new foundations with a new maited queen ?
@BlackMountainHoney3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes swarms leave with virgins and land in a previously established nest with drawn comb. Its a controlled split as a method of swarm prevention

Great vid Larry. I’d normally be in a Pearl of sweat with a cloud of bees that size, pinging off me. How’s the suit working out? Too pricey for me I’m afraid.

Searching for virgins is not something you need to do. Oh well, I'll strike that off the bucket list.

Not being funny really need help. Olso iv bought bbwear suit nice n cool great fit.
