DSS = depart special stage, ASS = arrive special stage. Trucks have always had 3 people in it, driver, navigator and mechanic. I've been waiting for a long time for a decent dakar game and this game looks pretty damn good

@@headhunter531 still, compared to previous dakar style racing games, it's miles better, I got it last night and the navigating is quite a challenge, had to adjust my controller steering sensitivity to stop myself from spinning out

I never played a Dakar Rally game before (I can't really imagine the excitement in driving straight through a plain desert), but this is looking pretty fun with very varying environments. Camera is drunk though, hate it. Handling looks great though, like the car has more weight in different places and throws it around.

For some reason, I think that the devs have deliberately made it so that car will never topple upside down or rollover on it's either sides. The damage model is arcadish. What I mean is you are bumping a tree at 150 kph & your car is not totalled. It could have been better - a reset in such cases could have been introduced as a penalty which will cost you time & maybe a position.

It's a fairly enjoyable rally racer - I'm playing the XBSX version. Game needs a few performance patches in the next few weeks and months, IMO. It's lacking a Photo Mode, Replay Mode, and Livery Editor. More content is promised, including a bigger map of Saudi Arabia (which presumably might mean more events), cars, etc. There is a Season Pass available at launch. Hopefully the developer will stick around to polish DDR up to its fullest potential, but this is still a good start (particularly when thinking about the game's predecessor, Dakar 18). If you enjoyed DiRT 5, you'll probably enjoy this, but start off in Sport Mode, and remember the surest route to victory is not always speed. This one requires a bit more nuance.
