I think it’s because of the vibe of the song. Cause “playing with fire” came out around a similar time, but the two have different vibes from each other and their voices go deeper. This song is way more silent, so more aggressive and louder tones won’t really suit it.

Haha Rosé got me into kpop. Literally, The first mv I watched was D4, and I literally fell in LOVE WITH HER VOICE. Her voice and personality is still why she’s my ultimate bias. Yeah, they were cute here. The unofficial pre-debut nickname for BlackPink was "Pink Punk", and you can see why - both girly and punkish in their debut concepts. Their agency, YG Entertainment, had a previous group called 2NE1, which was also in this sort of fierce swag "girl crush" space that you saw from "Kill This Love". Although 2NE1 put out a lot of good music, they were somewhat criticised for their visuals. Thus, their boss Yang Hyun Suk said that the next girl group he made would also have visuals, in addition to the same sort of swag music. Hence, Blackpink's concept of cute-swag was born.

Yes, their voices changed a lot because they now matured. Their voices then were really, like baby 'cute'. So now its mature.
