Everybody misses that this is about their own struggles with fame as well as dealing with the haters. The line about how old thoughts can come back and try to bully them is about how, even for successful people, their old insecurities and doubts that they thought that they had dealt with can return and they have to fight them off again. The lines about the brighter the light gets the longer the shadow is is about how the more famous they get the more the attention - both positive and negative - builds up, creating an unreal version of their reality. The line about if the light gets too bright, will they be able to look back is about, if the fame becomes too great, will they be able to see who they really are, or will they succumb to their own hype and/or negative press. The line about the painting and seeing all the way to the torn places is about their journey, including the struggles, failures, mistakes, etc., and them wanting to be able to remain themselves and continue to see themselves as who they really are ("Wondering if I have to try and pretend") and ("will I expect someone else to recognize me"). But, the last line is about how the more they do, the more they continue to fight, and that "they ain't got a shot on me.". It is actually a brilliant piece of writing, and the girls performed it magnificently. Even as a fan, I was amazed at how much feeling they all got into their voices. It seems that this song was very personal for them.

My favorite Blackpink song and it has not only power but universality while still being very personal. I can't think of any kpop song that I like more. Thanks for your thoughtful comment to a fine reaction video. It doesn't strike me as a sad song.

With "THE ALBUM" it was really time to bring out what they had kept inside for too long. We must understand one thing, the girls certainly knew what was being said about them on net but it was unthinkable that they could respond on the same social networks on which they are denigrated, tormented and made the target of continuous hatred. Then they could only say what they had to through their weapons, words and music!

Arguably their best lyrical song! This song is about haters and about their lives as trainees and as idols, how hard was and how they suffered, all of them are singing, Lisa proving she can sing, Jennie saying "You never know unless u walk in my shoes Its easier to judge me than believe" hits hard after what she went thru (most hated idol as i said in your solo reaction) All of them went thru harsh times, Rosé and Lisa had a hard time and when thru basically the same thing as trainees so their lyrics hit hard and also as idols, Lisa suffering racism from some k netizens and hearing bs about her, Jisoo used to be ignored a lot by YG and the own fandom, all of their struggles in 1 song, funny how pretty savage is about haters as well but while is such a BLACK song dissing haters even Rosé cursed and Jisoo rapped, You never know such a PINK song with all emotions and pain, Fun fact: This is the 1st song Jisoo got the most of lines and we all know she ends up getting the least almost everytime and so its amazing that she got the most and she started the song, I remember I slept at 4 or 5 AM when they released this album I dont have a fav song on the album but this one hits hard and we dont need to be idols to relate to the lyrics, we all can relate to their pain! Watching their documentaries u will understand more and more, Im always late in the reacts and videos coz my phobe stopped working months ago I'm in my old one and I dont recieve any notifications so I have to wait to the videos appear in my recomendations, anyway Jennie's doc "I am jennie" was the best one but got deleted by YT we can only watch this by reactions on YT but would be weird a reaction of a reaction, also there's a lot of Jisoo's doc on YT idk which is the best one, Lalisa u did(I need to do a comment to ur reaction to this one), and Rosé has one too, I actually suggested to u their docs If im not mistaken, in my giant comment in your community in the middle or the bottom? ah idk but I did suggest XD I actually said more than 1 video coz some of them complete each other, I also suggested the Jennie's one in your solo reaction
