Along with all the unique player designs, it drives home that these people aren't just warriors, they're a community. Fighting for their homes and the people that they love. The illagers aren’t actually bad, they’re just getting revenge on the villagers that banned them from the village for doing adventurous experiments, like experimenting with life and death, which explains the evoker’s attack mechanics and it’s totem of undying, for the pillagers, they were probably trying to adventure and explore new things, and the village forbid it and they should “accept life as it is” and not do anything extreme. Vindicators, ravagers and vexes were probably experiments of the illagers, turning kidnapped villagers into them, and most likely the allay into vex. If the villagers never discouraged them, they wouldn’t have been raided.
