Nice to see that the Blackpool vintage trams are coming back for next year. Excellent news. Plus I do expect to see Avanti West Coast to run their new Class 807 Evero to Blackpool North in the new year. As they have now entered service and going as far as Birmingham New Street, Stoke-on-Trent and Liverpool Lime Street.

No guarantee the trams will be back. The statement reads "we aim to have them back on the Promenade next year. However, before that can happen there are a number of complex operational issues that need to be addressed." So it all hinges on those issues being sorted and sadly things don't happen fast here in Blackpool.

Myself and Rose have just been to see the illustrations and it was sad not seeing the heritage trams running up and down like they always do

Ok a short history brief here…the Class 76, aka Tommies were built for the Manchester-Sheffield Woodhead route in the late 1940s also classified EM 1 electric locomotives, and were supplemented by seven larger EM 2 s in 1954 intended for the express passenger workings between the two cities.I could go on, however, you mentioned Morecambe, which was electrified, way back, connecting Lancaster and Heysham, but through steam, later diesel trains could run from Leeds and Bradford to Morecambe mainly via Wennington and Lancaster Green Ayer… that route closing in January 1966.

I'm not convinced the trams will be back in 2025. The revised statement says "we aim to have them back on the Promenade next year. However, before that can happen there are a number of complex operational issues that need to be addressed.". As such if they can't/don't address those operational issues we won't be getting the trams back. I hope I'm proved wrong, but I fear the second statement was just to try and calm the storm rather than provide real guarantees.

Good point but let’s stay hopeful 👍. Let’s see what happens buddy. If not I’ll wade in 😆
@StevenHughestransportvideos4 күн бұрын
@nodrograilways I'm sure there will be lots wading in. I hope my scepticism will be unfounded, but sadly experience with other "aims" taking years longer isn't giving me much hope for 2025. Keep up the good work on the clogs though.

I agree, these council's in power and led by a Government who don't give a dam about this country anymore will see this as a huge money pit, and will say some cock and bull story about safety just to get rid of them, Doesn't help in any way the way this once great seaside town thrived but now has become a grottey run down hell hole.

Removing these trams would be suicide for Blackpool. Yes they have to upgrade them due to safety and I believe the depot which is heritage listed required major money on it foexa new roof. I think this depot may well be a working. Museum in the future. Just as Sanfransisco as cable cars which is a huge draw card, the same is true of the trams. Sanfransico also has the street railway which is a tram route, they're heritage PCC cars, they also have a Milan tram, a Melbourne tram and also a Blackpool boat tram. They use trolleypoles not pantographs as thry do share the positive trolleybus wiring which would not be possible with pantographs.
