Yeah that was pretty metal haha. What a stud. My great grandpa was a bomber pilot, mainly in the European theater and North Africa, and hearing him talk, they don't make them like they used to. Or at least it's quite a high bar to reach.

My dad was on Iwo. He was a huge John Wayne fan, but he hated "Sands of Iwo Jima." Watching these guys reminded me of him. He died and was buried with honors in 2013.

My grandfather was at Iwo Jima during World War II. He unfortunately, passed away when I was about 7 years old. He’d be 106 by now. I’d give anything to talk with my grandpa about ww2. He is a family legend.

My grandfather was in the 1st infantry division US army from 1941 to 1968 hes 103 now he was apart of the 1st wave to storm Omaha Beach

I feel you totally. I’d give anything to talk with my grandpa about ww2 too, as well. He was a Filipino Guerrilla who saw a lot of action with the Japanese before the US came and liberated them. So many stories, it’s truly fascinating. I guess the best thing we can do, is to really find ways to keep it alive.

I couldn't help but notice that Don Graves (Flamethrower) said he was at the top of Mt. Suribachi when the flag went up and in the Flags of Our Fathers clip, you can clearly see a flamethrower operator at the top. Probably a good chance it was his representation.

My Great Uncle served as a Marine at Tarawa and Saipan. I cherished his company and conversation. He never spoke of the war to anyone, until I enlisted. He was a wealth of information and is sorely missed.

@doctexas1666/ I met a person who was in the Army air corps. He told me he was on an Atoll In the South Pacific, I believe and he was waiting for a plane to arrive to give the nurses donuts. He told me something wasn't right. It was the wrong type of plane and it didn't in right place on the run way. So he went down to give the nurses there donuts & when the door opened up, It was the type that had steps on it . I don't remember the rank that started getting of but they were of upper rank .The last one to get off was Dwight D. Eisenhower He told me he salute him & I said, you dropped the donuts? He said look at how big these hands are. He told me that Eisenhower said " I wouldn't mind one of those donuts young man" I love talking to our Soldiers & the stories they Tell. I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart & GOD Bless to you & your families.

Kinda surprised the interviewer hasn't seen Letters from Iwo Jima. Considering he's doing an Iwo Jima interview. Excellent movie. One of Clint Eastwood's best. That scene where the soldiers are killing themselves in the cave one by one is one of the most intense scenes I've ever seen in any movie hands down.

Don is such an incredible man. My father is a good friend of his and I’m had the pleasure of having a beer with him. He is such a kind hearted man and has an amazing singing voice. I really admire WWII vets. I remember one day at my church, a WWII vet saluted at me and I smiled and nodded. It's sort of a mystery to me, but it really meant a lot. Really cool seeing what these two gentlemen think about these films!
