Yes, they won't buy the ETF. But still the ETF's are absolutely necessary if we want a worldwide adoption in long terms. Also a lot of market participants are not legally allowed to buy and hold BTC in self custody. The ETF is a vehicle to circumvent that.

Not a chance in the world that BTC will be in control of Blackrock. Blackrock, Vanguard, Fidelity, and State Street control the financial markets and also every major corporation. I wouldn’t doubt that they were in on the crypto creation. They own it. And can take it down whenever they choose or send it to the stars and then crash it. There is only about 27 million addresses with any appreciable amount of BTC in it. It doesn’t take much to control that amount of addresses. The elite through these corporations can do with it as they please. Do you actually believe that the elite control every financial asset except some digital assets?

Blackrock doesn’t live in the world of code, they live in the world of legal structures where ownership is defined based on some legal agreements, not possession of keys.

Well the implication is that even if you hold real spot Bitcoin in your brain wallet, you are still affected by the market manipulation. Blackrock ETF and spot bitcoin will see arbitrage even if you don't agree. So it doesn't make it any better, price wise, to hold real Bitcoin. The sad reality is, they will manipulate the whole market this way.

All Coinbase customers are doing off-chain transactions too! What's the difference? If you buy bitcoin at Coinbase there is no on-chain transaction. This has always been the case and was well known when this ETF was created. That doesn't somehow lead to "lying about bitcoin holdings". This isn't evidence of anything. If they are lying about their holdings you are going to need something else that shows that.

That's was always been the plan since the ETFs were cash settled. But unlike gold ETF, we know the maximum total Bitcoin. So none of the US ETFs can sell over 21M paper Bitcoins.

I don't get how this effects the retail market (people like us)? Maybe in the short term they can move price up and down, but in the long run, Blackrock enabled institutional adoption. In my opinion, eventually this will effect Bitcoin going up.

So basically you are saying: 1/ BR can conduct off-chain TX in CB and doesn't need to prove 'in that moment' that they are 1:1 BTC backed. 2/ They have a 2-30 day settlement period. 3/ Settlement can occur in cash. Your conclusion: It is evident that BR can move funds from their ETF within CB and use it to short BTC and manipulate the price. Can someone explain to me how this conclusion is evident from the first 3 steps? And how these are paper BTCs that will expand supply and therefore lower the eventual BTC price discovery? We had the same discussions in 2018 about the CME BTC futures launch that were in fact paper BTCs whose launch coincided with the 2018 bear market. People thought it was game over and look were we are now despite the BTC futures market.

Paper BTC doesn’t expand the supply of real BTC. What happens on chain is always publicly verifiable. What happens with paper bitcoin is done to manipulate the price. Big difference.

You buy real bitcoin and hold it on a bitcoin only hardware wallet. Black rock is a win - win for bitcoin. They help initiate mass adoption and raise the price as they succeed with the ETF and other ETF's. Then if / when the US does a 6102 style attack on large custodians like coinbase, who hold all that bitcoin backing the ETF's. Everyone who holds real bitcoin benefits from that bitcoin being seized because a sudden supply shock now hits. If coinbase is fudging numbers and it comes out that the backing isn't 1:1 then same thing happens. Just don't be a fool and own real bitcoin on your hardware wallet.

I am thinking of this because the transactions are getting slower and the fees are getting higher on bitcoin network.
