Blacksmith's Leg Vice & Anvil Restoration (mouting the vice + Forge Set up #2)

I wanted to restore this old blacksmith's leg vice to finish the little forge set up. So, after taking it apart, I brished it and ground it with an angle grinder. Then, I did the same with my anvil. The face was a little beat up so I started with a sanding disc first, I went slow and then, to go faster, I used a grinding disc. It went a lot faster and after checking the level, I finished with the sanding disc again. As long as you go slow and carefully, nothing can go wrong ;) Just have to take your time.

Nice work! But the only thing I didn’t find very right is grinding into the surface of the anvil. I got one myself and restore it as well but I only went over the top surface with a steel brush even though the surface wasnt 100% straight just to keep the hardening best as possible. Have you notice any dent after hammering or differences between spots since you grinded some more than the other?
@RedSmith
@RedSmith 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I didn't grind too much to keep the hardening of the face but I did'nt notice the anvil taking more dents now compared to before the restoration.

I finally got to watch this. So, on the vice, was that all wire wheel, or was there a sanding disc in play as well? Turned out awesome!
@RedSmith
@RedSmith 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you Paul ! First I used wire wheel to remove old paint and rust. Then, sanding disc and grinding disc to redo the vice's jaws and anvil face. It wasn't a hard work but it took time. :)
