This tradition with the horses went well into the 80's. Lived in Wandsworth as a kid, great memories. Shame London is now full of "new" money and crass culture 😅

the RACS deliverd bread down our road, every day, and 3 different " totters " used to travel down our road every day, they had welsh cobs, which had feather feet, just like the shire horses, in this video.

my sister was working in an office years ago,on Putney bridge road, Wandsworth, when the Youngs shire horses and dray cart, bolted past, with things falling off the cart, no draymen on it. then the draymen were running along to catch up with them, they eventually caught up with them, they had stopped outside the next Youngs pub, where they regulary made a delivery, something had frightened the horses. I was drinking Youngs beer from 1968 onwards for years, it was great, Youngs Ram brewey had an artesian well, the water was filtered through miles of London basin chalk aquifer, below the London clay. real Youngs beer is no longer available, only as a brand name, which is not the same beer as the original. what a shame.

Sold off for luxury housing few years back...and now Fullers have done the same...no name family Brewers left!!

In the 80s yes the castle always had live music Sunday night ,also used the fountain,sailor prince ,prince of wales and many others …iam not an alcoholic 😂😂

@@mickydroyboy1542 hello, did you ever go to the " the fog " pub 2 Groton Road, Earlsfield, London, SW18 4EP back in the 80's, I did drink to the Fountain " some times, but not in the saillor prince, I did drink in the prince of wales, when fred " nosher " powell had it, I said to him, some one did a survey with boxers, and asked then " did boxing cause you any brain damage, and 2% said , yes, and 98% said they did not understand the question. and he said, are you trying to be funny, your barred, the next day I went in, and he had forgotten., . he had been caught shop lifthing, a while before christmas, .and at the court, they as him, why he had done it, he said he did it, because he was bored, which was true, because he had loads of money, I said to his wife, how many more shop lifthing days to christmas. I worked in an upholstery,s place in Summerstown road, back in 1967, got £3 per week, one morning when I got to the prince of wales corner there were a lot of people standing there, the wandle river had flooded the Summerstown road, up to the prince of wales, there was a copper there, with a boat, and we rowed down the summerstown road into the factory yard, next to the wimbledon dog track, and looked through the windows , seeing things floating about in 4 foot of water. I found out that a horse drawn railway 1803 " Surrey Iron Railway " had crossed the same land site where the Prince of wales built in 1890's did you ever go to the Angel Inn, 29 High Street, Lower Tooting SW17.I use to have a pint there in 1968 - onwards, my first pint cost 1 shilling and 4 pence = 8 p these days. I am not an alcoholic, but liked having a laugh, with my mates, in the pubs, liked a youngs 1/2 bitter, with 1/2 special bitter, any thing was better than Watneys,. did you ever use the Tooting Slipper Baths ?

the shareholders were only interested in the 81 million pounds that it was sold for, not our appreciation of the beer, and everything associated with it.

Were ITV Schools programmes at this time mostly made by the big 3 (Thames, Granada and ATV) or did the smaller ITV franchisees have a large contribution in a relatively cheap to make sector?
