Beautiful craftsmanship. I love that you don't clean everything up to a cliche mirror finish...you leave your pieces rough, beautiful, and with loads of character. Awesome!

Dear Chandler, thanks for the video. If I may suggest the leftover file grooves can be used like a garlic shredder. They have a tool made of fired clay in the Mediterranean which is used to "grate" garlic cloves. You just pass the garlic back and forth on the grooves and it just goes like mush. Beautiful herb chopper, I would use every day for years! :)

Nice video! You remind me of my grandfather, (QDEP), who could do anything with a piece of metal or wood except make it sing. You have that smooth expertise which comes only from years of experience, and you make it look easy. And I totally agree with what you said about how the world is turning to plastic. I was born between Sputnik and the Bay of Pigs, and the changes in this world within my lifetime have been both enormous and terrifying.

Thats pretty awsome. I would love to see a nice skinning blade made like that. When I skin a deer I like a nice long rounded blade with a good hard edge. The same shap with a 6 inch blade that has a good piercing tip in one end. That handle and shape would be perfect for skinning just bigger

Another excellent video tutorial my friend! I found a way to remove the forging scale. Soak the item in vinegar overnight and the scale rubs off easily with a small wire brush or scotch brite pad. It does take some time but when you do a run of several items soak them over night then clean up and do your finish work. Saved me some time on a run of several neck knives. Another thing you can do during forging is put a thin coat of water on your anvil and the scale will pop right off as you forge. I tried it and it works. It only cools the very outer surface and scales cant hold against the shock. Thanks again Chandler, Im gonna make a few of these as gifts. By the way, bed frames make great little blades. Try them out and you can find them all over the place.

Great video, first of yours I've seen. I really like your presentation style and the whole idea of re-purposing old tools and other items as something useful, not just some trendy geegaw that will have no more function than to collect dust. As a variant, maybe try one with an open-ended handle, so the profile is like an old flat-iron. Subbed

loved your video!. This is something that I want to get into later in life. I just had one suggestion for the handle. I noticed that at the end you were holding it and the handle curled right under your pinkie finger. Maybe try to make a curl that the pinkie finger would fit in on the opposite side of the other three fingers. It may give a little more of a "non slip" grip. I am not in the craft so I am not sure how hard that would be but I just wanted to say something as a knife lover and a huge fan of "homemade" Anything. Thanks for the videos. I think I am going to watch all of them now. Oh and good luck with that neighbor. ha ha

Mate it is wet and cold today, so I will fire up my forge and see if I can make your herb chopper for the "War Office ", well hopefully that is all she will use it for. Old horse shoes make great hoof picks, you cannot buy a decent hoof pick from any feed stores or saddlery down under, might be the same your way, take about 10 minutes to make. I like the creepy observer !! Your videos are most helpful. Cheers Gordon
