They were actually quite successful in the American revolutionary wars. But like all British Regiments battle honours are not displayed as this was regarded as a civil war.
@charlesb16022 жыл бұрын
For all the good and the bad, it is undeniable that the global influence of the United Kingdom and its empire forever changed the course of human history. I would be willing to wager that no other civilization in history has had such a profound role in shaping the technology, science, economics, law, political systems, literature, music, etc. that the civilized world is founded upon today. It's hard to even imagine how different the world might look today had Britain not arose from that azure main.
@XXXTENTAClON2272 жыл бұрын
This is obvious. It is interesting how reluctant people are to attribute this title to Britain when it is relatively uncontested: - The British Industrial Revolution; this alone, is the most significant event in measurable human history. We have only ever had 2 stages of such significance: the agricultural revolution (12,000 years ago) and the British industrial revolution (200 years ago). - Antibiotics; there’s a reason infections aren’t treated like terminal illnesses anymore. If you get the Black Plague, you will survive comfortably with antibiotics. That is unthinkable considering it wiped out half the planet not long ago, and was borderline terminal each time. - Vaccines; there’s also a reason that certain diseases don’t actually exist anymore. Smallpox being the best example, there was no natural immunity, we all have vulnerability, but due to vaccines we don’t have to worry about catching these things. These 3 things alone… I mean the world had 500 million people before Great Britain and the British Empire. Population afterwards? 6 billion. And now it’s 7.9 billion. It’s so fascinating how many hoops people jump through to discredit Britain, but honestly I think they’re just hoping that if they say it enough that it will become true; it’s not like Britain has a population of 1 billion patriots… it’s a small island. But there’s so much that’s still too difficult for people to deny, the language, the sports, the culture, the inventions etc. and it’s borderline frustrating when I’m trying to learn (as an American) about history and people try and shove it in my face about how imperialism is bad; I’m not an idiot ffs but I don’t see them crying about the Roman Empire which ran on slavery or the fact that they think Vikings are cool even if they happen to be war mongering rapists. Don’t get me started on the Mongols. The fact people compare it with things like Imperial Japan or Nazi Germany just makes me think they’re antisemitic or racist towards Chinese people for downplaying the amount of damage done to them
