..and....sorry about screwing up the landscape?........These coal fields are left looking like the moon when the mining companies leave......it ends up as useless land...

How much money was spent on the explosives for that job? The first one or last, damn that video was cool.

looking back... if i had opened my mind more as a teen, I could have been an explosives engineer instead of an engineer deciding how coal was burned... it would have been much more rewarding to blow shit up!

I dislike this - incredibly. I'm sure the river beds love all those rocks and the animals in that environment love having less or no water to swim/bathe in. Plus, the extra elements that they are not used to breathing and eating. Wonderful.

Awesome footage of how to let explosives do the work in removing overburden. The pre-split shot at the end was very well done. As to the post mining condition of strip mine lands, I own several thousand acres of such land, most of which has been reseeded and reforested for wildlife use, while other areas are used for recreation as well as residential and industrial development. No better place for an airport in mountain terrain.

The firey explosions, is that because of the coaldust self-igniting?
@vince38curious28 жыл бұрын
+Cain Lolsson Simple answer " YES"
@cainlolsson978 жыл бұрын
***** Simple answer is good enough answer to me :)
@vince38curious28 жыл бұрын
+Cain Lolsson Actually the second explosion was probabley IN MY opinion either the wrong type of exsplosive or should have had the seperate charges set with a slight delay for the Purity of the coal layer they were blasting into..To Avoid the possibility of setting the coal seam on fire.. That said IT WAS Impressive ( COOL )
@nicynodle28 жыл бұрын
I'm think it was the coal powder igniting, considering the fact then anything powered (that can be burned or is flammable) turns into an explosive and is very easy to ignite.
@Rick_Foley7 жыл бұрын

@gravelsandwich6 жыл бұрын
no that's a coal shot. They leave a primed booster about the ground that timed to go off when the coal dust cloud rises. All that dust is flammable.

As a service engineer for a Drill MFG co, I installed blast hole drills in Black Thunder. The mining starts with Drilling, without them it's just a piece of land, YET no one tells about the importance of the Blast hole Drill,or reviews them and how they are built and used. "SAD" Without the Blast Hole Drill all those big trucks and loaders are just a pile of scrap iron.
