I am very glad to know that someone is spreading the truth about these cuties! My snails keep my tank clean and are so funny to watch especially when they float up from the ground or when they backswim on the surface. I don't use a lid on my tank and I've only ever found ONE snail that tried to leave the tank. My snails do a daily march up to the top to 'sunbathe' out of the water for a bit before going back to the bottom to eat up the nights feeding remains. My tank is an every day happiness for me as you can tell XD

How fast do they repopulate? I found one in my tank after adding some new plants. Didn’t think much of it because I have assassin snails in there as well. Came home yesterday and saw a bunch of new baby snails. Food for the assassins i guess

If the food sources are good, the population of snail can grow very fast. And yes, it should be good foods for your assassin snails. 😅

I hear you! I feel the same way. I discovered these pretty, shiny copper babies in my newly planted tank. And when I researched them, I saw so much negative about them. But I think they are so entertaining and beautiful. And any clean up crew is welcomed. I like that they move fast too. But I can watch them for hours.

I inherited bladder snails from the plants I purchased a few months ago. I adore them, and they do a great job with tank cleaning. They do populate very quickly so I have removed a TON of them to keep the numbers manageable. Unfortunately, the bladder snails multiplied so fast that they beat out the mystery snails for food, and one of the three mystery snails became calcium deficient and died. Otherwise, in the right numbers, combined with some acroloxus, ramshorn and mystery snails, they are quite useful.

I’ve found between a beta fish eating the eggs (btw some fish eat snail eggs) and a single assassin in a 10 gallon makes a decent aqua scape. I don’t really feed anything but my beta fish, the snails clean up the leftovers and each other. Can’t put shrimp in the tank bc he’s aggressive. They look pretty cool floating like a hot air balloon in water. I gotta admit. Mine have like golden amber flecks.

I got these snails through hitchhikers on plants and my aquariums are pristine now!!! They were originally just in one aquarium and that aquarium looked clean all the time, no Algae on the glass or the plants. My other aquarium had algae on the glass, equipment, plants…so I moved some of the snails into the other aquarium and WOW, it’s looking awesome!

The species you show at 1:21 and in multiple parts of this video are actually Wandering Snails (Radix balthica). You can tell them apart from Bladder snails as bladder snails have string like antennae, whilst wandering snails have rabbit ears. They are two different species! Wandering snails eat plants, whilst bladder snails eat algae. They will both also eat decomposing matter or leftover food.

Hi! just searched this because i saw one in my tank out of nowhere😂 first, i noticed this snail hanging out on my cabomba but still don't know if that was a snail so I ignore it. But today as I was doing my routine WC, I noticed it again still on my cabomba but a bit bigger. I poke it with a stick and it moves. I thought that was my nerite's baby, but the shell marking is different and it moves very fast comparing to my nerite. Having a closer inspection and some googling, then this video came up. I'm going to keep the snail as it eats algae and debris out of my plants. Gonna have a closer look if they multiply before I buy some assassins😂 update 13/06: now i have 6.. i think I should order some assassins this week..

I think these little guys are cute. Are they good at eating algae? I’m in need of an algae clean up crew in my 20Litre tank (betta tank - heated and filtered in a bright room) but nerite snails aren’t locally available. I could get these bladder snails “accidentally” on purpose with a plant at my local, or I can buy a ramshorn (mystery snails are too big). Everyone seems to hate these guys calling them “pests” so I’d like a snail friendly point of view. What do you think would be best for green algae control without causing other issues?
@LitiAquaria

The population of bladder snails adjusted by the food source as I observed. You can keep them in the tank as they are helpful in eating algae. They also don't lay white eggs which are unsightly. Just reduce the feedings and keep tank clean, the snails population will reduce. :D

@@LitiAquaria It is hard to keep the 5 gallon tank clean, where I spotted the bladder snails, and it seems like every week I am vacuuming out the tank and replacing the water(partial water changes). I would not doubt that I'll have a lot in no time but I'm already doing my best to limit the amount of food available. I was going to get some pea puffers in order to keep the population in check but I am afraid that they might harm my orange Sakura shrimp, my nirite snails, and my rabbit snails. The pea puffers shouldn't get big enough to kill my nirite snails and rabbit snails but they may still bite at them and hurt them, the same goes for my shrimp. The pea puffers get about the size of a guppy full grown.
@LitiAquaria
@LitiAquaria 3 жыл бұрын
Pea puffer could kill snails that bigger than them actually. Their teeth is like made of steel. 😂 I guess if you have snails, you should not have pea puffer. No worries, with more regular water change, your tank surely will be keep in check! 😊💪

@LitiAquaria
@LitiAquaria 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the snails population can be increased quite fast, but it will slowdown depends on the food source. Once your tank less algae and no over feeding, the population of snails will be reduced and stable at lower level. 😁
@LitiAquaria
@LitiAquaria 3 жыл бұрын
Oh, for planaria, luckily I have not got it infested before. But I believe a planatia trap would do the work. You can search for DIY trap, that is quite simple and effective. And very important, please do not over feeding. 😁
@dingodyno9016
@dingodyno9016 3 жыл бұрын
They only multiply if they have a good food source around to keep the population going. If they don't they die off, thats why they say that they are a good indication of tank health. Basically if you get a lot of them, then that means you have to much of something in you're tank whether its algae, decaying plant matter, over feeding or you're not keeping up with maintenance. If you keep you're tank on track and tackle all these things then they won't have the food source they need to Ballon out of control anymore and all the ones you got will die off eventually so don't panic if you get a crazy amount of them at first

I don’t know where to go from here. Any advice? There are so many different opinions online, and I cannot find any opinions that are related to my situation.
