The story goes that the monologue was meant to be much longer. Rutger told the director he did not think it had to be and modified it, so that it was shorter and slightly different. We are all glad that he did. I think it would have lost it's impact if he had left it as originally written.

In life there are survivors and there are those that renounce their privilege of freedom. I'm the former, and if a character resonated profoundly on the person I am as I am, it would have to be Rutger Hauer in this movie. And I bear a morphological resemblance of a few singers and actors, not Rutger Hauer. I have been asked if I am Austrian, the answer is no. The saying everything happens to me? I am that person. The poignant line: By Rutger's character, I have seen things many have never witnessed.....It's no surprise people think I am an alien. Happy travels where ever you are...

It's my understandiing that Rutger Hauer actually wrote this scene. I believe it because he does it as if he's really talking personally. Even if someone (somehow) hated Blade Runner, they could never deny the power of this scene. With one monologue, Roy Batty goes from a chilling, unhinged psychopath to a sympathetic person who has reached the realization that everything he's ever been is about to be swept into oblivion. Masterful.

There's a reason why classic movies from the 80s and nineties still provoke interest. It's because they were good imaginative but plausible stories first, where the effects were a necessity to the plot and not driven by them or any hidden agenda.

Works like this movie, mostly ignored at first, but they ripple out across time and our lives until we finally realize the truth of them. The power of such things keeps us alive and moving ahead. Beauty in cinema.

Quei momenti magici che regala il cinema. La potenza della sceneggiatura, la maestria della regia, il talento degli attori, la bellezza circonfusa della fotografia e una colonna sonora intensa e profonda che moltiplica il momento rendendolo magico Grazie a tutti

I saw this movie when I was a kid and someone else told me how I felt, different. Rutger Hauer was always my favorite actor, and I guess he still his. Sleep in Walhalla brother, we shall meet and I will tell you thank you.

The best monologue in a movie ever, and to this day my favorite movie. Never a movie that better asked the question of what it is to be a human being.
