@@lass_isolet Damascus steel patterns are formed by welding two kinds of steel (usually a high carbon or stainless steel) in a folding and twisting manner. There are many different techniques that can be used to form a Damascus steel pattern however all will in some way involve welding several layers of steel to form one single piece, this single piece will then hold the unique Damascus steel pattern as the finished product.

@@MPBushman Sorry, I meant no disrespect. It's just that the fit of the two starting pieces is all just CNC programming. It's a really really snug fit, but that's all due to the method by which the sunburst and inverted sunburst are cut. So amazing engineering, rather than magic :) (Wire EDM cutting can be so accurate that, by eye, you cannot see the the transition between the two pieces.)

@kickmonlee3390
@kickmonlee3390 2 жыл бұрын
@@sanguinetales the sun like pattern was twisted so the spokes you see on the knife alternate between pointing towards the knife's edge and like 45 degrees off it. The smaller spokes on the knife are the slightly off angled ones and the larger spokes are the ones that aligned with the blades plane. Idk why some of the spokes are bent all funny but that might be because of the center metal was slightly more malleable than the outer metal and so it deformed more during the smithing process.

I absolutely LOVE the way you draw the heated material out by starting the press from where the tip will be and working down to where the hilt will be - instead of the other way around. Lotta people don’t realize that that method of pressing still draws the material out, but simultaneously *compacts* and strengthens it at the same time, rather than just spreading it thin. I would absolutely kill to have a “Spirit of Lightning” damascus pattern sword forged by you in the Viking-style, single-edged blade and hilt profile. Such a sword would be the stuff of Legend.

I watch these when I’m having trouble sleeping because of my anxiety and it also puts me to sleep and I mean that in the absolutely nicest way possible. Also because of this channel I want to get into this hobby!

I know I'm a year late, but water jets. It was made with water jets. They can cut through just about anything with enough psi.
