@soilent96182 жыл бұрын
With the second gen BRZ and 86, literally my only complaint is they're a bit loud on the interior due to the obvious lack of sound dampening for weight/price savings. Outside of that, it's basically the perfect daily sports car. Affordable, lightweight, decent cargo space for how small it is, good power stock (now), superb handling, excellent steering, and the BRZ has quite a nice ride as well. I really can't think of a car with a better mix of all these. Mustangs have more power but are bigger and heavier, MX5s are smaller and lighter, but aren't really dailyable, Corollas are more practical, but aren't true low CoG RWD sports cars, and finally Zs are less practical, heavier, and way more expensive.

It was super stressful going back and forth with the dealership since they felt entitled to charge more because of hype. Now I'm on the waiting list for the GR Corolla with dealerships that promise they don't go over MSRP. But even with that, I'm kind of just tired of buying new cars, especially performance cars. I have a 2017 Impreza Sport hatch that looks great, drives great, and fits with where I live (can't really go fast around here). Oh, and it's paid off. If I can easily acquire the GR Corolla Circuit Edition, then cool. Otherwise I think I'll just let it go until the hype has died down a bit. Thanks for the content!

I'm in a similar situation. I'm 11th in line at my local dealership for a GR Corolla. The sales manager told me they are only expecting 1 car allocation for 2023. I'm hoping for a 2024 model and trying to get myself mentally ready to walk away if they try to charge me over MSRP.

Toyota is one of the best car brand to me right now, they make fun and good cars while keeping their "normie" fan base aka the families with the SUVs, they listen to their community and because almost if not all of their models are also sold in hybrid motorisation they don't have to pay the carbon tax and use that money in R&D. The Gr Supra in a manual is the greatest thing they could have done to supra, people who were going to buy an auto already have, and the people who were running into tuning roadblocks with the autotrans now have a manual transmission and can now build the gr supra to the moon... without worrying about the auto causing issues when it exceeds a certain power threshold.

I mean people have already found the limits of the auto. They've been made built versions to handle more power with ease and run just fine. It's not just hype that has ruined the car community, I would blame the internet for most of it. Looking back, whenever a manufacturer released a new car, the layman would just look at it and decide whether they wanted it or not, now it's a bunch of 12-year-olds complaining about how "the new version doesn't look like the old one". No shit, why would you pay for a 'new' car that looks the exact same as it did 30 years ago. Inflation of cars is also because of these kids fanboying over them and placing them on a pedestal Point is, if you have the money and don't like the car, don't fucking buy it.

You're on the money in terms of different cars marketed to different buyers. I used to own a 93 rx7, I now drive a 3.8 genesis coupe. My plan is to have a manual GR supra when car prices get back to a reasonable place. I can't imagine driving an american muscle car, or a hot hatch...they're just not my cup of tea, regardless of how close they may be in performance.
@Xchax32 жыл бұрын
I blame the prices on the “ I know what I got” guys. And when you see the car, the owner doesn’t even do basic maintenance on it and prioritized paint and RICE shit. It’s rare to see guys that take care of the cars AND want more than what they paid for it. It’s a machine and it deteriorates regardless of the upkeep. A beat up 90s Skyline GTS is not worth almost $100,000 🤣. Okay, I vented my frustration with some owners. I just hope the MC20 doesn't use the FCA mirror adjustment buttons. Those are so terrible, that you can't disable mirror adjustments. It has to be turned on to either left or right, there's no off position. And the buttons move, so there's always going to be one sitting up and one pushed down. I'd actually rather not have power mirrors, than to deal with the OCD-triggering adjustment switch.

Dealers should have to disclose exactly how much over msrp they sell for. Instead of just saying it's over msrp instead saying "We are selling this car for $21,634 over the base price which is 34% over" just to make sure that out loud someone hears it and puts it to scale and maybe dealers won't get so egregious

Kinda like how some anime gets tons of criticism because the expectations were way too high.

Comparing the Z to the GR Corolla is fucking stupid. They are NOT in the same class, the Z doesnt have 4 doors, hell it doesnt even have 4 SEATS. Be thankful that Z exist, because if it didn't your chances of actually getting the GR Corolla would be Z ero. Think about it, if the GR Corolla is the ONLY CAR coming out this year and there are only 6000 of them, what do you think your chances of getting one will be? Even if you could, having less variety/availability is EXACTLY why retailers are able to sell them so high over sticker (Look at what happened with the Type R) now imagine if there wasn't the WRX STI and Focus RS competing with it when that debacle happened.

Aside from all of this comparison that people always do. I see way more and more that people forget the old times. People bought 280Zs and even 300ZXs that werent the crazy versions. Same as the Alfa Romeo GTV ( US doesnt know this car ) that i personaly have be it the low tier version with the 1.8Twin Spark engine producing the "cosmic" 144hp. Sidetracked anyways people forget having a nice car and just driving it here and there and having fun in it even if it isnt a rocket. People were proud with a 2.3 liter mustang fox body. There are people that loved the bottom spec Boxter and still exist but only the old cars. These days you have 3 types of classes: 1-Ultra luxury big sedans/SUVs 2-Ultra Fast coupes small sedans/SUV Coupes 3-Cheap to the bare bone just with AC and a cheap navi Hatchses or the other side EXTREME low lifespan small engine Mega Hot Hachbacks. We dont get normal priced cars with 5 engine and spec options. Well the US still holds this to some extent with the Mustang/Camaro/Challenger

It's for your own enjoyment and not validation from others. I would say the same thing for stance car, is it basically undrivable? Yes, is it my thing?
