Funny how people make fun of spyderco fans saying they over pay so much but we have companies like benchmade selling old steels and marking up way more then spydercos. At least spydercos using all sorts of steals and not afraid to use differnt blade shape or drilling a hole right on the blade breaking molds by being bold.
@Cahwai Жыл бұрын
My biggest complaint is if you break your spyderco, they don’t offer blade changes so if it breaks you’re stuck with it. Also anything from dealer exclusives have little to no warranty. But they do steels right and if i want to try something new i’ll go to spyderco but i prefer Benchmades warranty to spyderco’s.

I have 1 Spyderco PM2 and a Benchmade Bailout. The Spyderco has an excellent lockup, smooth operation, and feels excellent in the hand, fit and finish is top notch. My Benchmade was slightly dull out of the box, the blade isn't even close to centered, the Axis lock sticks and sometimes takes 2 hands to unlock, and it feels very cheap even though it cost about the same as my PM2

As a seasoned Spyderco collector l found this video very enjoyable and informative. My favorite thing about Spyderco, especially the PM2, is you can easily modify them to make your own. Recently I added burlap micarta scales and deep carry clips to my two Shamans and it really dresses them up nicely. ❤ Happy collecting. 😂

I'm brand new to knife collecting. First knife is already a dream knife, the reate exo m. But recently found out spiderco is colorado based and today went to their factory direct warehouse in golden. Chase was very knowledgeable and helped me learn more about knives and helped me pick up knife 2 and 3: military 2 and delica 4. Really happy with them. He was also very upfront with some details like the fact i could find them cheaper online (like blade hq) but i have no problem paying a little more premium to support local.

Yeah but they sure gave us a giant middle finger for the factory seconds sale. I just got into knives in the last 8 months or so. My first spyderco was the pm2 s90v. Then two weeks ago when all the major sites had a spyderco sale I went crazy and bought 6 more knives from them. Had no clue a factory seconds sale was right around the corner. Found out I about the seconds sale the night before and I tried getting on the site at exactly 9am when the sale started. The site wasn’t loading. Diffused I’d wait a few more hours and try again, 3pm still didn’t load. Finally when I came back at 4pm I got to the sale knives, the only thing worth buying was a Native 5 maxamet. I immediately added to my cart and tried to check out but got a message “sorry, we just sold out of this item.” Later that night I saw screen shots of what knives were on sale in the beginning and the insanely low prices they were marked. Couldn’t be more p!ssed. Spent $800 with them in the last month and when a really good sale came around I wasn’t even able to make a purchase cuz their site wasn’t working. Feels like a giant slap in the face. Came to find out the same thing happened to tons of other people.

Great video. While I do love a number of their designs, 3 things keep me coming back. Quality, steel variety & heat treatment. Only ever had a couple of minor quality issues - mostly to do with blade centring. Now I appreciate steel variety & heat treating may not be of interest to many. However, if you want a variety of steel in your diet & you want to know that you're getting the best out of it, then I can easily recommend Spyderco. You'll notice that Spyderco rarely leads the charge in using new steels because they take their time to dial in a good heat treat first. I'll take the halo off now. Sharp blades all.

If you love the Tenacious (assuming 8Cr steel) - you'll absolutely love the Shaman & PM2. The step up in terms of performance is massive regardless of which steel you go with. While there is some step-up in handle ergos and overall quality - it's the steel where you get the jump. Regardless of S30V, S35VN or S45VN etc.... the improvement in sharpness & edge retention is awesome. You even get a bump up in corrosion resistance. Yes, they are a bit harden to sharpen bit the performance hit is well worth it. Have a great day.

Spyderco also has a little-acknowledged Byrd line of budget knives. They're similar to the Value folder series in that they are 8Cr13MoV steel and made in China, but they tend to run a bit cheaper, and they have a couple of hawkbill and wharncliff shaped blades that are interesting in their own right.

LOL George - Yeah, you better take a big swig of that coffee . . . you got a lot to cover in this video bro! You did a great job here - kind of a daunting task! I'm a HUGE fan of Spyderco's folding knives, and I also love the Shaman (as well as the PM2 and Manix 2!). I've got the Yojimbo and Yojumbo on my (very long) wishlist. So true that Spyderco is a great brand for collectors; I never counted, but I probably have at least 50 Spyderco folding knives! It is kind of overwhelming to try to keep up with - so many different designs and steels! I'm also a big fixed blade collector, and I kind of have to disagree with your point about Spyderco's fixed blade offerings - I feel they need a great deal of improvement. I have MANY fixed blades from LionSteel, TOPS, ESEE, Morakniv, Benchmade, and even ZT, but I don't have even ONE (1) fixed blade from Spyderco! I feel they're all not designed very well at all and usually look like some kind of weird kitchen knife. I think Spyderco should really get some input from outside designers to come up with a robust fixed blade that can be used for outdoors/camping, tactical, and/or survival purposes.

One durability perk of spydercos with nylon grips, thin / small blades, and minimal or no liners: a 2-3oz lightweight spyderco can survive a tip down drop that no 4+oz Paramilitary will. In a knife carried for use, dropping the knife is as plausible a source of damage as hard use. The atlantic salt is basically impossible to damage from dropping, between light weight and blade shape.

My first Spyderco knife was an original Mariner with a fully serrated sheepsfoot blade and a stainless handle (not scales, it was machined from a solid piece of steel). I later was thrilled to be able to buy a left handed version, with a left-oriented pocket clip and reversed serrations for better left-handed cutting. On a sailboat you really want to be able to cut rope fast in an emergency, and this knife made me feel safer. Also, despite the sheepsfoot blade I never felt unarmed carrying it with those wicked serrations.

I haven’t bought a Spyderco since the nineties and I miss them. I like the Yojimbo but I wish they would make it with the techno 2 blade.

I didn't see the Native Chief on your video. It's my favorite and it's my favorite EDC.

Oh wow that Stretch 2 looks like a Native 5 with the frog head blade. I need it!

So glad Knife Banter is back on the Tube. Excellent collection on the table & George just "rock it" with the presentation & pitches. Won't be surprise if Spyderco were to tout him over, not that they would anyway. Spyderco is just too good, as a manufacturer & as a down to earth kind of folks. Our twin girls grail would be the original & first Para 3 even though they're into bushcrafting. They're doing double shifts to save for one as it is not available in Australia. Cheers George, you've just hype them up more. Greetings from The Land Down Under.

Wow. Just picked up a paramilitary 2 in camo for $100. New in box. Super pumped. This and a mcbee….got from the same guy. (Paid 130 for the mcbee)

I have a Spyderco Endura serrated blade that is over 30 years old that I still carry frequently.

Same here! Full serrations...it was my first "good" knife and it cost $35 at a gun show. Still cuts like new and it HAS been heavily used!

For many years buying the BS knive at random places an they were meh, but once I really did my research and started understanding what makes a good knive, Spyderco is definitely the way to for me. Bought 3 this year and not looking back. Set on Spyderco, Yojimbo 2 is the next one I would love to get my hands on as a service member. Like he said in the video Yojimbo and the Paramilitary Series are great for military members. He is definitely not wrong there. Highly recommend Spyderco knives to anyone, even get my 3 kids there own when they are old enough and responsible enough to carry their own.

The Spyderco will always be number one followed closely by Benchmade. Sentiment notwithstanding, ie mother of pearl Case.
