I’m 70 years old, been carrying Case knives since I was 10, my father and grand father both carried Case all their lives. I’ve got about 40 Grandaddy Barlows 15 single blade Hunters and 20 double blade Hunters, 15 Stockman knives, all made before 1940. I’ve had buck knives, but you just can’t beat a Case. All mine are double XX or ten dot. If you have a Case that starts to rust, you need to clean it with some bin ami, and then oil it once in a while, because it’s a carbon steel blade, not stainless

@jasond12454 жыл бұрын
@@Mwootey316 well I can had ton of blades break under pressure
@EDCandLace3 жыл бұрын
What would you want 3v on a knife like this for? The blades so thin would wouldn't gain a ton in toughness with a steel like that and it's a non locking knife so what are you going to be using a knife like this for to where 3v would benefit you? That knife wouldn't sell well I do not believe as no one sees a non locking trapper as a hard use knife lol to need a super tough steel like that... Now what I could see making people simp over is one in K390 at 65-67hrc as you would literally never have to Sharpen it and they could charge a premium for it or make them with S30v/S35vn to give a huge steel upgrade over their normal steel without having to double the price of the knife (S30V is a very workable steel and wouldn't drastically increase manufacturing time/cost but would be a huge upgrade to the end user who I wouldn't think would have an issue with a 25-30% cost increase) CTS-XHP would be a excellent steel upgrade as well... Hell even CTS-BD1N would be a huge upgrade over their normal steel. If I could get a large case trapper in S30v/S35vn or CTS XHP and it was priced 40 to 50% more then a normal trapper I would buy two as soon as they was released. If I could get one in K390 that was heat treated to 65-67hrc I would happily pay double and order two at release. I do not like their stock steel, I don't like the way it feels on the stones no matter the type of stones your using. The steel doesn't give good feed back making it harder to keep a perfect bevel, it doesn't take a super fine edge (I don't expect it to take as fine of an edge as Powdered metals take but I expect it to take an edge like 12c27/14c28n/N690 etc etc and it doesn't. The grain structure is very large in their stock steels) and it deff don't hold that edge very good. It's fine edge holding ability is very little (about like a decently HT'ed 420) and it's working edge holding ability is not very respectable neither but they continue to still cut because of the super thin blade geometry so that covers up a lot of how poor the edge retention is. Case really needs to give us a high performance steel option, I would be really happy with even a well done 154cm and really happy if it was CPM-154. Now another idea that I have that they really should think about, simply use 12c27 or 14c28n Sandvik as their stock blade steel and everyone will be happy and it's still a budget friendly steel that is easy to work and will VASTLY out preform their normal steel and I mean VASTLY. Give us 14c28n HTed to 59-61hrc and increase cost 15-20% and people will be so happy with your knives and the performance they will give. As it stands Rough Ryder VG10 series at half the cost or less is superior in edge retention then Case steel by a fair margin. When your getting beat by half assed VG10 your steel is not up to snuff. RRs VG10 edge retention is damn near twice as good as cases normal steel, feels better on the stones (gives decent feed back) and takes a much finer edge.

CASE should pin their shields or drop them all together. If you are going to put a knife away to look at occasionally in a collection then ok . I will sharpen and carry any knife I own if I can't use it then it may as well have blades made from beer cans. I've pinned case knives myself, nothing uglys up a quality knife like a damn hole where the shield should be. Super glue is like Velcro it has its place . I have seen Case knives in the stores display case missing a shield and find it laying in the bottom of the display. I would gladly pay 5 or 10 bucks extra for pinned shields.

I own an older case knife that was handed down to me, and I think they're cool, stylish and classy, but I don't understand the choice of blades on their 2 blade folders. For utility, why have 2 blades that are so similar? If you only have 2 blades, wouldn't you want 1 with a straight edge and the other with serration, or a screwdriver or an auger or...anything? The subtle differences in blade shapes may be pretty, but it limits the breadth of utility. That is one nice looking hatchet though.
