Another trick is to open up the fish's stomach to see what it's been eating. That will be a good indicator for what you can use for bait.

If it is catch and release fly fish, what I do. Use one of the plunger thingies that squeezes out the stomach content. But in a survival situation you'd end up eating the fish and you wouldn't have a plunger thingie.

that's crazy how in 2 meter's he found an ideal amount of fishing line, and a brand new lure laying around, I will say though it is possible to find the stuff around, one time I was fishing and I thought I got hooked on a rock and it was actually an entire fishing rod with reel, line and a hook.

I read many of the comments. I am not too surprised it turned a little snarky. The lure did look brand new, even if it wasn't and that helped to set them off I think. I have been through military survival schools and we had some of the gear from a survival kit or ejection seat kit. So we did have some nice gear to use and it was fun to learn. I had been a Boy Scout and the training rekindled my interest in primitive techniques like Native American, Eskimo and South American Natives for my primary studies. Maybe the use of paracord and a bone or stick gorge. Perhaps using spring powered branches with a trip line, a trot line. Making a fish net with paracord for seining or scooping minnows or tad poles. Just some ideas, not being critical. I liked your Indian Fish trap, these are used all over the world...successfully. I saw them daily in Vietnam. Thank you for your efforts. For you complainers and doubters, their are many ways to be stuck out from civilization and need to survive, cut these guys some slack and show us YOUR scenario please.

I don't like this video, because you just happened to find fishing string and a lure right where you were filming. If you were away from population there would be no string, lures or trash; you only found it bc you are located close to a city were people fish (not really a survival technique if you are located close to a populated area). Second when he caught the fish it was with the found lure, not the ghetto one he rigged up with the para cord.
@BladeHQ
@BladeHQ 10 жыл бұрын
You're right, that the amount of found gear was high because it was an urban river, however, we were just trying to show different technique that could be used. Obviously you want to use the most effective method possible, which meant we went with the found lure.

Great.... if im every in a situation where i happen to find brand new fishing lures, a mess of line, and a stream thats not obviously a popular fishing spot "cough" im all set to survive, throw that together with my "Indian" fish trap with gaps about small enough to admit a small shark... or salmon and im good to go! Lets not forget to put in some plugs for my low quality, "survival" items! Everything about this... was terrible, on every level. My favorite was the "fishing line para cord, exclusive to....blade HQ" ... what it should have scripted as was " Plastic stranded bits of low quality and lower tension strings wrapped in nylon Paracord nocoff." The Video needs to be renamed "Lets plug my channel and products, while in the woods".

Angry someone point out the truth ? The fish trap will fail no doubt, the fishing line part is so fake, as a angler, most fishing lines i find lying around are tangled up and in small sections of 1 or 2 m at most. A lure at that depth and brand new........... come on.
@TJackSurvival
@TJackSurvival 8 жыл бұрын
polo101101101101101 Or so you say. But really what would you know? LOL Just because you don't see behind the scenes when I spent 20 minutes untangling that stupid string doesn't mean it didn't happen. You've obviously never done this. So your opinion is invalid.
@polo101101101101101
@polo101101101101101 8 жыл бұрын
Ok, from what you said, you are telling me that there is no fraud in this video. The line started in the location, you untangled it , place it back, set the scene, and then you filmed this video. Right ? This is so fake, because you could have just filmed the tangled string in its state and fast forward the video to the state where it is shown untangled. You are right, I never had to untangle lines lying around , but I sometimes have to untangle my own lines, as I do pole fishing. This is because I BRING MY OWN FISHING LINE. So tell me why is my opinion invalid? Because you lied ? If you swear by your family and personal honour that there is no fraud in this video, but if you did that you and your family has no honour and would be cursed forever.If you dare to swear by this, I would believe you and apologies for saying that you faked the scene.

Loosing a lot of value there in the processing of the fish. 1 You can eat the head. The eyes contain fresh water and the brain contains essential fats, same as the liver. and 2. The safety of terra firma on the bank after a huge flathead catfish came up out of its nest hole and engulfed a 240lb man up past his knees with his mouth feet inside of the mouth of the catfish! They reckon these fish have caused quite a few fatalities boating or in river lakes across usa i dont mind flumping about in the shallows or swimming deep but when you start floundering about on the deeper sides of the river bank you just dunno whatvyer going to bump into!? I was swimming in a natural lake the other day n a 38lb carp breached itself 10inches from my nose pike n catfish can are predatory pike are safer than catfish but have been known to drown dogs from surfaces whilst swimming or swans if big enough territorial enough catfish hide themselves up riverine drainage pipes or holes nests in bank the size of fish you caught you just never know if irs mother or father is watching you gut it on the bank as your back is turned id always face the river just in case when ankles deep in it!,

if you find lures, and fishing line on the bank of a river, you are no where near being lost, or in the wilderness. i go to places where I might be the first person to ever set foot there. I've been to lake that have never been fished, and trust me. when your up in Northern Canada these ''survival'' tips don't work. cuz you are NEVER going to find lures, and fishing line conveniently laid out for you in arms reach lol

TJack Survival yea because fish swim right up to the bank, and into a ''trap'' I'm native. and we would never use something like that. it just wouldn't work. the chances of getting a fish big enough to get stuck in the branches,but small enough to swim right up to the bank is 0. the paracord part was spot on though.
@TJackSurvival
@TJackSurvival 8 жыл бұрын
Grimm Reapo You're not connected to your native history then. I've caught plenty of cat fish this way in Georgia. In Utah though it's illegal to fish this way so we had to remove the trap after we made it. It works on cat fish because they like the sense of security in the reeds. Also if you put some rotten chicken or worms or fish in it, you get a ton of fish. Here's a link to educate you. twentytwowords.com/how-to-make-an-ancient-but-now-illegal-fish-trap-out-of-sticks/ But simply googling this would have shown you all sorts or historical proof on how this works.
@grimmreapo655
@grimmreapo655 8 жыл бұрын
Yea that was a blanket statement on my part. I should have said that in my particular tribes geographic location and different ways of collecting food sources in Northern Canada this wouldn't work. but your right. in your area they would use it, and your right about the catfish. we wouldn't use it here, cuz we dont have fish that will come up to the bank for rotten chicken. although we did do something similar. we created a woven stick wall, and made a v shape in a stream or creek. the tip of the v had a 6-8 foot long woven basket. we'd form a line up stream and use sticks to splash the water, and make the fish flee down stream. the v would funnel them right into the basket. so yea, sorry for the blanket statement. not all tribes do the exact same thing.
@TJackSurvival
@TJackSurvival 8 жыл бұрын
+Grimm Reapo if you're on the coast then your ancestors probably used ocean gardens as well. They essentially use low tide walls that trap fish in a pool. But they take a very long time to build.

If you really fell off the sky and landed on nowhere. I doubt you would be able to find all these. If I'm trapped in a place where I could literally find used fish lines and lures. I wouldn't worry about getting resucued soon.

you can use the strands from paracord as fishing line and you can make a really effective lure with the outer casing of the cord and a hook so if you get a branch as a pole you can fish if you bring only a knife and a hook and paracord

You should scale the fish before gutting. And that is a sure way to cut your hand when gutting.

another good thing to do in survival fishing is to use the guts from the fish and hold them underwater using a rock and sit there and grab all the fish and crayfish that come by to eat them

+Hans Wurscht so if I drop you on a desert island full of trash and nets, you're telling me that you don't need survival skills like this? You didn't think that through before it fell out of your mouth did you.

Most people lose out when they put too much large gear in their survival fishing kit. Put # 6 or 8 eagle claw hooks, some bb sized split shot, 4 or 6 lb. fishing line, and small floats. this will catch small fish which are easier to catch Then you can use 165 lb. tarred bank line as your main line and the small mono as a leader or use the bank line for limb or bank lines with appropriate swivels and hooks for big fish and turtles. Every fishing kit should have a knife of some kind. I see a lot of supposed survival fishing kits with 12 lb. mono. as their only line small fish are finicky when they see rope tied to the bait.

Another good vid from BladeHQ. As an avid fisherman though I must disagree with the advice given that suggests melting the knot or line. Most fisherman would suggest lubricating your line(with spit) before cinching down a knot. This is because many fishing lines especially fluorocarbon are heat sensitive, and the strength of the line could be compromised by the the friction when the knots are tightened. Thus, attempting to weld or melt a knot together with heat would probably just cause it to break when stressed with the weight and struggle of a hooked fish. I would suggest that people who are interested in survival fishing techniques take the time to learn at least one proper fishing knot before heading into the bush. There are many that are very easy to learn and tie, and you won't have to worry about line breakage due to damaged line or a bad knot.

I believe he was talking about melting the paracord to the hook not melting the line.

PERFECT VIDEO! This dude obviously knew what he was doing and then what I have needed the most to know was how to kill a fish without inflicting too much pain to it. Also about that fishing line and hook - I think that it is a good tip nonetheless because you might find this stuff at random, even further away from civilization I suppose.
