MINOR error: Dragonpulse was only a 1 of at best and wasn't all that reliable since Kozmos control were a big part of the meta and they couldn't be targeted (in contrast to Dragonpulse which was 3 of since it was the only scale 8, an mst, and is searchable by Summoner's Art). The correct card that should have been in the video as replacement was Oafdragon Magician which was a 2 to 3 of. This is because during that time the most consistent variant of PMagicians were OEM which stood for Odd-Eyes Magician (sometimes + extra M for Majespecters) and Oafdragon provided consistent recycling on top of being a material for Rank 6s like Norito and Utopia Beyond, and can be tributed for Majespecter Tempest. Players would use Wisdom Eye to place Oafdragon in scale, Oafdragon add back Wisdom Eye, Sky Iris pops Oafdragon to search for Odd-Eyes, Wisdom Eye gets placed back into scale and search. And that's just a turn 1 combo, the turn 2 combo is that + pop a backrow with Dragonpit, and then once you Pendulum summon everything back out, Oafdragon's effect adds back the Magician/Odd-Eyes you discarded for Dragonpit.

I still think people didnt give magicians post pend evololution enough credit in the 2017 nats season Deck had so many easy outs to true draco and zoodiac, the pendulum magicians could grind so well, the deck actually could realistically set up pendulum 5 from the extra deck every turn, it abused the pendulum mechanic to the absolute fullest, even better than pepe. The deck was rediculously consistent, could make powerful turn 1 boards and otk so easily, the only thing holding it back were d barrier, strike and antispell in dracos case being big parts of the format already Other than that pen mag was no slouch in that format, people were really sleeping on them
@admontblanc4 жыл бұрын
I played Astrograph in multiples on all my builds since release, the scariest thing was never Anti-Spell back then, sometimes you could even clap Dracos, leave the Anti-Spell up and let them try to play through it. The only thing that really stopped the deck was D Barrier.

We had 3 days to mess around with Double Iris + Joker with Electrumite. EXFO released in morning while banlist dropped in evening 02 Feb, with banlist taking into effect on 5th feb. 3 DAYS!! and Electrumite and Iris combos, were sooo consistent! Honestly, Pend Magicians were Tier Zero in that 3-days window. Tier 1 at several instances, sure but in that 3-days window, it would have been unstoppable (better than PePe) if the preemptive hits to Joker/Iris hadn't occur.

In reality, Electrumite was the best and worst thing to happen to Pend Magicians. It was a god send consistency card and free draws (which lead to free advantage when combined with self destruction scales like Astro/Chrono/Wisdom) but it also severely limited what Konami could give back to the deck in terms of actual archetype cards. There's no logical reason to have Joker, Iris, Astro, Plushfire, Kirin and Monkey banned at this point. Keep starving venom banned. That card is purely an FTK tool. But the deck is dead without the cards above. Selene is pretty much Endymion support (it is useable in Magicians but less of a turbo and more of a second board building play). I realize Konami won't release them off the banlist for some time, but I also disagree with their practices in that regard.

Hey I really enjoyed watching a video on my favorite deck! But as a big Pendulum fan from that time period, in 2015 Oafdragon Magician was normally the low scale to go into, rather than Dragonpulse. Oaf in scale could retrieve Wisdom-Eyes for the future and when summoned grabbed materials from GY. The infinite recursion of that was a big part of 2015 Pendulum’s strength. Also if you were cheeky you could go into Norito, the Moral Leader. One thing I’m a bit confused about is why didn’t you mention Astrograph or Timestar Magician? If that’s being saved for part 2 I understand, just wondering what’s going on with those?
@admontblanc4 жыл бұрын
maybe an oversight regarding the last 2, Timestar was, well the star of the deck really when it came to Pendulumgraph control, and Astrograph was slept on early on by pros, but it was the card that single handedly shifted a duel in your favour vs meta favourites Zoodiac and True Draco since it's high body paired with Purple Poison's scale effect, and the ability to summon itself from hand and search a monster upon any of your cards being destroyed made Drident and Master Peace seem ridiculously underwhelming.

Double Iris was done dirty. Electrumite was introduced, and it was broken. Did it work well with Double Iris? Yes. But in reality the problem was that Astrograph was broken. Yet they ban Double Iris and not Astrograph. This doesn't even work, because, again, Astrograph and Electrumite were the broken ones. So they banned Astrograph, realizing that it was the problem. Did they unban Double Iris? No. Now they've banned Electrumite. Which, ostensibly, leaves Double Iris in a weaker situation than before Electrumite's release, because her buddy Astrograph is now B&. And so is Joker. So do they unban Double Iris? No. I don't understand it. Just give me my favorite card back already.

Why Pendulum Magicians were Tier 1: 1. Pendulums were broken 2. You could activate their Pendulum spell effect, destroy them, and then SOMEHOW get their monster effect triggered while they were destroyed as SPELL CARDS. 3. Konami was REALLY bad with card design and game balance in this era.
@emmahas2moms80384 жыл бұрын
You see, this is how experienced ygo players can spot you scrubs. "Pendulums were broken" (assuming you refer to the mechanic) is factually incorrect because only a few Pendulum decks ever became meta and they were short lived either because the banlist ban SPECIFIC Pendulums or eventually they were power crept out of the meta. ie.Pepe format in reality only lasted 3 weeks in terms of competitive play because everything became banned and Dinomist/Majespecter eventually became too "slow" compared to everything else. If the mechanic itself was broken, all Pendulum decks would have dominated in the Pendulum era (2014-2016), which that wasn't the case because non Pendulum decks like Kozmo and BA were rampant and I don't even think Qliphorts counted since it's only purpose was to summon Towers and set floodgates. "You could activate their Pendulum spell effect, destroy them, and then SOMEHOW get their monster effect triggered while they were destroyed as SPELL CARDS." This is 100% logical because when Pendulums die, they go to the extra deck face up as MONSTERS, so why can't their monster effects activate when they are treated as monsters? You clearly didn't think this one through, not even lack of knowledge, just lack of thought. "Konami was REALLY bad with card design and game balance in this era." You act like card design and game balance existed throughout the course of Yugioh, this game was never balanced and the cards were never well 'designed', in every era I can list a bunch shit that 'ruined' the game experience. You scrubs have little to no understanding of these topics and yet instead of stfu and don't say anything, you decide to type illogical and factually incorrect crap.
@darkglass30114 жыл бұрын
@@emmahas2moms8038 ""Pendulums were broken" (assuming you refer to the mechanic) is factually incorrect because only a few Pendulum decks ever became meta and they were short lived either because the banlist ban SPECIFIC Pendulums or eventually they were power crept out of the meta. ie.Pepe format in reality only lasted 3 weeks in terms of competitive play because everything became banned and Dinomist/Majespecter eventually became too "slow" compared to everything else. That is incorrect. The reason why there were no Pendulum decks that dominated between 2014 - 2016 was because there wasn't enough of them released to construct a viable deck with them. Unlike with Fusion, Synchro, and XYZ where you can draw on a vast existing cardpool, a Pendulum deck has to be constructed with all their monsters being Pendulums in order for them to work, and there simply wasn't enough of them released until Pendulums were in their 2nd and 3rd year which is why you didn't see them in tournaments until a few years later. Qliphorts were more of a floodgate deck than a Pendulum deck, but even then, the Pendulum mechanic gave them an unfair advantage because you could recur those resources even after your opponent destroys them. Skill Drain wasn't what made them powerful because if they weren't Pendulums, people could just dark hole them and they wouldn't be annoying, but the fact that they were PENDULUMS ON TOP OF having Skill Drain made them competitive and also unfair. That's not even taking into account Scout and Towers. "This is 100% logical because when Pendulums die, they go to the extra deck face up as MONSTERS, so why can't their monster effects activate when they are treated as monsters? You clearly didn't think this one through, not even lack of knowledge, just lack of thought." It isn't logical. You're one of those people who just accepts it because "Konami says so' without even critically analyzing how Pendulums were poorly designed. The fact of the matter is that if they are in the Pendulum zone, they are treated as spells and thus the spell effect should apply. Everywhere else they are treated as monsters and the monster effect should apply while if they are treated as spells, the spell effect should apply. This should apply even when they are destroyed as spells in the pendulum zone, but it isn't and you're able to have your cake and eat it too because Konami says so. This allowed people to inevitably exploit this mechanic to plus uncontrollably when they shouldn't have been able to, which is why Double Iris Magician and Performage Plushfire got banned. In terms of card design, it is debatable if Iris or Plushfire would get banned if it wasn't ruled that way, but because IT WAS ruled that way, they were banned for that very reasoning because this poorly designed rule allowed the game to go out of control because too many people were gaining too much advantage from exploiting the poor design of Pendulums that wasn't well thought out. You also fail to critically analyze why non-pendulum decks had so much trouble against Pendulums. At the time, decks only had 5-8 cards in their deck at most that had the capability to destroy spells/traps. When Pendulums had enough cards to construct entire decks, the odds are stacked against you because you have those 5-8 cards that can destroy spell/traps vs 40 card spell/trap decks because Pendulum monsters can be treated as spells. Not only that, but you have to hard draw into those outs and OTK them or else they would essentially soul charge for free the following turn and you lose. Even after destroying them as Pendulum spells, they still go to the extra deck anyway only to be brought back out again because it is too easy to rebuild the Pendulum scales. On top of that when you try to break their scales to disrupt them, it takes resources away from backrow that would screw you over and they would still soul charge for free for no reason. During Master Rule 3, Pendulums had their own dedicated zones to use them. This led to toxic exploitation with cards like card of demise where that player loses nothing on what is supposed to be a drawback. If Pendulums weren't broken, why were they nerfed TWICE after their introduction? The first nerf was with MR4 by getting rid of their own dedicated Zones and assigning them to the already existing spell/trap zones. The 2nd nerf is with Master Rule 5 where they are restrained by Links. This wouldn't happen if they weren't broken. They were revised TWICE precisely because they were. They were just a poorly designed mess and it took 2 master rules after their introduction to get them under control. I also don't act like there ever was balance in Yugioh like you think I do, but Pendulums were THE worst in yugioh's history which is why I gave them the title of broken. "You scrubs have little to no understanding of these topics and yet instead of stfu and don't say anything, you decide to type illogical and factually incorrect crap." Do you see how long my comment was? I understand Pendulums in depth and their impact on the game including the meta, but I didn't feel like writing a long-winded essay explaining the details and nuances on why they were broken. You of course were stupid enough to assume that I'm a scrub who doesn't understand the game, its history and its impact on competitive play, so I'm forced to write this long winded essay to explain why Pendulums were a poorly designed and poorly implemented game mechanic. I've critically analyzed Pendulums, their history, and their impact so my opinion holds a lot more weight, but I wish I didn't have to to make someone stupid like you understand because I don't want to waste time on a KZbin comment justifying a statement. Good day retard. Edit: I forgot to add that ever since the PePe emergency ban, Konami has since then taken a more careful approach in designing new Pendulum monsters, ensuring that they lean more towards working within their own archetypes only and making them less generic to prevent another PePe incident.That's why you haven't seen another pendulum deck be competitive aside from Magician Pendulum during Master Rule 3.

@@darkglass3011 "That is incorrect. The reason why there were no Pendulum decks that dominated between 2014 - 2016 was because there wasn't enough of them released to construct a viable deck with them. Unlike with Fusion, Synchro, and XYZ where you can draw on a vast existing cardpool, a Pendulum deck has to be constructed with all their monsters being Pendulums in order for them to work, and there simply wasn't enough of them released until Pendulums were in their 2nd and 3rd year which is why you didn't see them in tournaments until a few years later." - Actually that entire statement contradicts itself, my claim is that there were no Pendulum decks dominant between year 2014 - 2016, and you typed that's wrong by saying that they became viable in "their 2nd and 3rd year" which in this case is 2015 and 2016 which actually supports my claim that Pendulums weren't dominant in their own era since they only became viable in the 2nd and 3rd year. And even then there was enough of them to construct a viable deck by that time here's a list of a few Pendulum decks that either became meta on&off or came close to being meta: Dinomist, Majespecter, Dracopals, D/D/D, Zefra, Metalfoes, Igknights (note: they could also be different varients/have mini engines of other archetypes), they all had access to the extra deck mechanics that came before them and consistently made XYZ summons. "Qliphorts were more of a floodgate deck than a Pendulum deck, but even then, the Pendulum mechanic gave them an unfair advantage because you could recur those resources even after your opponent destroys them. Skill Drain wasn't what made them powerful because if they weren't Pendulums, people could just dark hole them and they wouldn't be annoying, but the fact that they were PENDULUMS ON TOP OF having Skill Drain made them competitive and also unfair. That's not even taking into account Scout and Towers." - Yes while that is true, that doesn't really disprove my statement on Qliphorts, if anything this looks more like you agree with me that the purpose of Qliphorts was to set floodgates and summon Towers. Also Kozmo and BA can recur resources even after your opponent destroys them, how is that any different, they do it for free. "It isn't logical. This should apply even when they are destroyed as spells in the pendulum zone, but it isn't and you're able to have your cake and eat it too because Konami says so." - Yes when they are in the Pendulum zones they are treated as spells, but when they are destroyed they go to the extra deck face up as monsters. You aren't considering how their trigger-like effects work, those monster effects trigger when they are treated as monsters as a result of being destroyed, if they go to the extra deck face up then they are treated as monsters. Even if they were destroyed while treated as spell cards, in the end they become monsters after destruction which is where the trigger-like effect takes place. "You also fail to critically analyze why non-pendulum decks had so much trouble against Pendulums. On top of that when you try to break their scales to disrupt them, it takes resources away from backrow that would screw you over and they would still soul charge for free for no reason." - You failed to consider that the top decks during the Pendulum era like Kozmo and BA either mained or side decked floodgates like Anti Spell on top on those 5-8 cards that destroy scales on top of responses like Solemn Strike/Dimensional Barrier and were inherently more powerful because they took less resources to be able to function as a deck, where as Pendulums had to generally go -2 first just for a chance to Pendulum summon and even then decks like Kozmo had big monsters with inherent protections on top of 2 card OTKs. "During Master Rule 3, Pendulums had their own dedicated zones to use them. This led to toxic exploitation with cards like card of demise where that player loses nothing on what is supposed to be a drawback." - It was literally just Qliphort without Towers, they played no different from True Dracos a deck that came after the Pendulum era. " 2014 is year 0 When they were first introduced. 2015 is year 1, 2016 is year 2. They didn't start to become a real problem until 2016, so it doesn't actually support your claim at all. "You failed to consider that the top decks during the Pendulum era like Kozmo and BA either mained or side decked floodgates like Anti Spell on top on those 5-8 cards that destroy scales on top of responses like Solemn Strike/Dimensional Barrier and were inherently more powerful because they took less resources to be able to function as a deck, where as Pendulums had to generally go -2 first just for a chance to Pendulum summon and even then decks like Kozmo had big monsters with inherent protections on top of 2 card OTKs." Solemn Strike and Dimensional Barrier weren't introduced until 2016 in Breakers of Shadow and Invasion Vengeance respectively and even then, they were Secret rares that not everybody had access to unless you spent massive amounts of money getting a playset of. For the large majority of the player base, there were no resource effective means of counteracting the opponent and to play a higher spell/trap destruction count in the main deck game one would hurt the consistency of the deck you're playing. Playing monster destruction cards is irrelevant because Pendulums just ignore that and soul charge everything for free like it's nothing. On top of that, the -2 argument is not a real argument because with cards like Sky Iris, the Magician archetype, Wavering Eyes, and other cards with a Dragonic Diagram-like effect neutralize the -2 argument and allows people to accumulate resources in their extra deck and Soul Charge them out for free. Unlike Soul Charge however, you can do it at no cost and do so EVERY TURN which is the inherent problem with their design in terms of game balance. Their innate design also perpetuates formats where a lot more floodgates are played which makes for a more toxic format where no one is allowing anyone to do anything. "You aren't considering how their trigger-like effects work, those monster effects trigger when they are treated as monsters as a result of being destroyed, if they go to the extra deck face up then they are treated as monsters. Even if they were destroyed while treated as spell cards, in the end they become monsters after destruction which is where the trigger-like effect takes place." Yes I have considered it already, but it's still stupid from a game design perspective because it allows people to gain too much advantage if they can feed off of the advantage generating ability of both their spell and monster effects like that, which is why I made the comment of "somehow they get their monster effects when destroyed as spells" as a rhetorical statement to emphasize how ridiculous it is from a game design and game balance perspective. Text doesn't translate well when you're trying to convey sarcasm or when you're trying to be rhetorical, which is why I spelled the word "SOMEHOW" in caps to convey that. It's not from not understanding how they work, but rather to emphasize how ridiculous they are. " You're calling Pendulum era the worst in Yugioh's history but seem to forget that a majority of Link era was literally infinite loops, hand loops, and nearly unbreakable boards that literally didn't let the 2nd person play the game. In the Pendulum era, the only time the 2nd player didn't get to play the game was during Pepe format which in reality wasn't even that long." Don't try to justify Pendulums by relating it to Link combos because the conversation is about just Pendulums. It is a fallacy to try to use a "but what about" defence to try to justify what is inherently wrong with something. The lesser of 2 evils is still evil so trying to make the comparison between Pendulums and Links is not going to work because Pendulums were in fact a problematic mechanic that wasn't well thought out in terms of game balance. They could do inherently what Dimension Fusion, Return from the different Dimension, and Soul Charge were banned for; but do it better because you do it for free and you can do it EVERY TURN. "They were nerfed twice because the only few dominant Pendulum decks aka PMagicians and Pepe were inherently more powerful than every other Pendulum in the game and scrubs constantly bitched and cried to Konami about ALL Pendulums when they didn't even understand the basics like how Pendulum scales work." The problems that I outlined regarding their ability to Soul Charge for free every turn is an inherent problem in every Pendulum deck. Some Pendulums dominate more than others and you will see more of them in official tournaments, but that doesn't change the fact that Pendulums are inherently unfair and unbalanced because of what they can do inherently that singular cards were banned for. You may hit some Pendulum decks with the ban list, but it is unrealistic for the ban list to keep playing whack-a-mole with Pendulums because they would always have that free soul charge EVERY TURN in their arsenal and other Pendulum decks will just take their place as what made them broken is inherent in their mechanic. To continually use the ban list as a means to keep Pendulums in check is unrealistic so revamping them by revising the way they work was the only choice they could make for the sake of future card design. "No you don't understand Pendulums in depth and their impact in the game, if you did you wouldn't be typing most of the things that you typed. Pendulums weren't all that good even in their own era and they only received such hate from the community because a majority of players online are chimps that didn't think their statements through before typing. What you are saying is not fact, it is an assumption. Pendulums were in fact good in their own era, because their ability to soul charge for free every turn was too powerful. There was hit after hit of them on the ban list by Konami and there was even an Emergency ban with PePe. To say that PePe was the only problem deck of the era is being disingenuous. PePe was emergency banned BECAUSE the Pendulum mechanic made them too powerful which warranted the emergency ban. Pendulums were the worst and PePe was the worst of the worst. Just because you get rid of the worst of the worst, doesn't change the fact that Pendulums were the worst. It would be interesting to test out PePe under Master Rule 5 to see if the power creep of the game has caught up as Pendulums are now kept in check with MR5, but there is no disputing that MR3 Pendulums were just unfair. They just gave players an unlimited resource to work with with too low a risk and too high a reward. It skewed players to be careless with their resource management and still win games because Pendulums carried them to victory and not because the player used their skill to manage their resources effectively. I find it intriguing that you insult people for not liking Pendulums for obvious reasons and assuming they're scrubs when their dislike of Pendulums were warranted because of the risk-reward ratio Pendulums had compared to the rest of the game. If I may make an assumption, you are biased in favour of Pendulums since you call people scrubs when they openly criticize the unbalanced nature of the mechanic even after they make an analysis of that mechanic's interaction and impact with the rest of the game.

Pendulum Magician was backed by the most unfair game mechanic in the game's history. The Pendulum mechanic was so broken that it was technically nerfed twice (Once for MR4 and again in MR5 where it was the only one still restricted by the Extra Monster zone while the other mechanics prior to Link were restored to their former glory).

@@williehawkinsii4845 Yes Electrumite was out when Joker and Double Iris got banned, but that doesn't change the fact that Astrograph wasn't a problem until Electrumite was created. It was indeed a 'meh' card, before Electrumite came, Astrograph was 1 to 2 of at best because there was no consistent way of resolving his effect to gain advantage. No one used Chronograph since Electrumite didn't exist, the only way to pop scales on turn 1 was with Wavering Eyes, Luster, Pendulum Sorcerer, and Wisdom Eye. Both Wavering Eyes and Luster weren't worth using on turn 1 unless you knew the opponent had no responses, while Sorcerer's only purpose was to search Joker in which that didn't even happen since Joker was at 3 and with draw spells you would always see it, while in terms of Wisdom Eye most players went back and forth with his value (some prefer Pend Call others prefer Wisdom). Astrogaph didn't become bannable until people figured that you can loop him with Electrumite and Supreme King Starving. Also unlike Astrograph which can easily be negated, Double Iris couldn't because most negate cards state "destroy" after the negation which trigger it's effect again.
