It’s time to reimagine Blake’s 7, keep its soul and either move on or start again. We all love who and what has been but what can be could be so much more! The characters in Blakes 7 did not like each other, only stuck together out of a common threat, the Federation is trying to kill them. My favorite scene is where Avon is alone on the Liberator, something Blake had not allowed, knowing Avon would bolt. He is going to, but is told by ORAC he cannot defend against 3 Fed scout ships. You see him go insane and laugh, as he realizes he has to call the rest of the crew back.

I'd watch that! But then I like anything Sci-Fi. If they do a continuation rather than reboot I think it'd be better. Pick up after the season 4 ending, according to the late Terry Nation both Villa and Avon were meant to have survived if he'd done a follow up series, an official book I read once that I believe was cannon had both those characters surviving as it was set after the show and they had Orac with them. Can't remember what happened in the end of that though but I believe they lived to fight another day. A continuation could have Avon missing ultimately turning up dead. Servelan could be in exile for all her failures, Orac being searched for and if anyone was to survive it'd be Villa. A young small group of dissatisfied citizens learning of Blake's cause and seeking out secretly the truth stumble across Villa who has to brag about his time with Blake, inadvertently becoming their inspiration to fight against the oppressive Federation......
@SesameR7sh2 жыл бұрын
I'd have Avon survive but captured. Vila and Tarrant escape. They retrieve Orac, and steal another ship, finding out that the pilot is Jenna. (Frightened by Blake's paranoia, Jenna let him believe she was dead). They eventually discover Avon is alive. At first they join a rebel group Jenna's been flirting with. Avon gets to hear of it and waits for rescue, yet it never comes, because they keep putting it off, especially when they break from the rebel group and start working with Amagons and Terra Nostra, focusing on building first wealth and then a power base. They start to become as feared as Amagons themselves. Tarrant keeps saying he will rescue Avon, but he doesn't actually want to: now he is a solid villain, the man in charge and Jenna's lover to boot. Embittered at being abandoned, Avon stops fighting the torturers and starts working with Servalan. But what does he really want? Vila is terrified of Tarrant and Jenna and the world he now inhabits. He is forced to stop drinking as it impaired his skills and he nearly got them all caught. His mind is brighter without liquor. Will Vila rescue Avon? Or will Tarrant kill him? What about Jenna? Will Avon kill Tarrant and rape and kill Jenna? Bleak enough?

@@SesameR7sh I would have it so that Orac whilst on the Liberator was able to get all of the schematics for the Liberator and has any survivors commission a whole new DSV (DSV3?) or a smaller derivative of it which is called Liberator II, also Orac would have downloaded a copy of Zen into its data banks which it could then upload to the Liberator II's new onboard computer system, hell, I would actually go as far as to suggest that Orac having been captured by the Federation willingly supplies the Federation with the schematics so that the Federation can build one as a fully functioning prototype which Orac is then placed onboard as the guidance system and whilst on trials Orac fools the Federation crew into teleporting (on a minor mission) whereupon Orac then pilots the Liberator II itself and heads out on multiple courses to different last known locations with the intention of picking up any surviving members of the crew that it secretly communicated with informing them to remain at their respective locations until it could complete "it's mission (to have the Federation build a new Liberator) and collect them"! Add in some of your suggestions and BINGO! Their first mission back on a fully functioning DSV could be to a) infiltrate the base that built Liberator II to wipe out all schematics that the Federation has of Liberator so that they cannot build copies and b) to then destroy the base that built Liberator II along with the unfinished DSV's that they had under construction. Could they bring back Travis? They could clone him and install a behavioural chip in his brain which has an explosive so that they can control him more, as for Blake? Well who knows, the Blake that we all saw die may just have been his clone that we saw in Series 2 of Episode 3 "Weapon" and so the real Blake could actually be out there somewhere, or maybe they find Blake's clone and he takes the place of the original Blake where only the crew know it's not the real Blake and creating a belief that Blake actually survived? There are so very many possibilities available here we could literally go anywhere with this storyline....

B7 had all of the great dark dystopian grit that today's SF stories try to have. It had complex anti-heros and storylines. It challenged your moral compass decades before Dexter was even conceived and it had the best spaceship design ever made - the Liberator (please DO NOT destroy the Liberator again). It did all this 40 years ago, well ahead of its time. If they're going to bring it back they HAVE to be very careful to integrate the original B7 universe into a modern day version. Paul Darrow is a terrible loss to the show and to a remake. Avon needs to be included somehow. The characters need to be true to the grit and personalities they had, not become politically correct Hollywood stereotypes. But it could be the best remake ever made if they do it right. I can't believe no one has picked it up and remade it - I mean they're starting to scrape the bottom of the Marvel barrel so...

Frankly, I think any Blake's 7 reboot at this point would necessarily change what the show was. It might indeed be a good show, but it wouldn't capture that low-budget magic. It would have to find its own way, like the Battlestar Galactica reboot.
@waltonsimons12 Жыл бұрын
I think a BSG-style "reimagining" is precisely how a Blake's 7 reboot should be done. Take the basic premise and then let it become its own thing, rather than slavishly following the canon of the original.
@janreznak8812 жыл бұрын
Imagine a BBC reboot in 2022: Blake would be a white male - but a homosexual. And the leader in name only. More interested in the massive wardrobe the Liberator carries, but is needed as the "leader" as the Federation is ruled by a patriarchy (despite the President being a "woman"). Avon, the real leader, would be a sassy black woman. Villa, a teenage white girl genius who has escaped from her abusive father. Avon will become her mentor. Jenna, a beautiful blonde, expert pilot and lesbian. In a relationship with: Cally, a telepath of Indian extraction. Gan, a huge black man. As strong, smart and loyal as they come. Zen, the computer, voiced by an old white man. Not a very smart computer, often ridiculed and completely outmatched by: Orac - an android, played by a Pakistani male. Servalan - Federation President. A beautiful white transgendered woman. Trying to make the Federation a better place, but being constantly thwarted by the Patriarchy. Eventually will team with Avon to "liberate" the Federation to usher in a new era of peace, prosperity, unicorns and rainbows. Travis - also a white male. But evil, stupid, ugly and cowardly. Treats the Mutoids as slaves (who are played by black actors exclusively). Gets his just rewards when the Mutoids finally take their rightful place as the backbone of the Federation, and lynch him. I think that's everybody. Not being hyperbolic by the way. Well, maybe a little. Nah, not really.
@waltonsimons12 Жыл бұрын
You're looking at it all wrong. What's important in Blake's 7 is not the race, ethnicity, gender identity, or sexual/romantic orientation of the characters. It's the personalities of those characters, and the way those personalities bounce off each other. It doesn't matter if Blake is white or Indian, only that he is an idealist who grows increasingly fanatical over time. It doesn't matter if Vila is a teenage girl, a middle-aged man, or an elderly non-binary person. It only matters that he's a coward and a petty criminal. It doesn't matter if Avon is straight or gay or pansexual, only that he is cynical, pragmatic, and highly intelligent. You get the idea. The characters and their interactions were a large part of what made B7 special, not their races or genders or age or whatever. So forget about insisting that a reboot match the races and genders of the originals. Just keep the characters' personalities the same, and then hire the actors who can best portray those personalities, regardless of race or gender. (Or orientation or anything else.) Then hire writers who can put those characters into situations where their mismatched goals and personalities cause conflict, and top it all off with modern production values. Voila! You've just created a successful reboot! By the way, I nominate Asia Kate Dillon to play Servalan. They look like they were BORN for the role. 😉
