Yep, more progression videos pls, not just the "podium shots". 😅 When it came to getting a feel for her brakes _(her first mtb + disc brakes!)_ i had a friend of mine just *push* her bike whilst walking and have a play with the levers to get her used to actually modulating them and that one finger was indeed enough to stop - she wasn't used to that kind of power, having only ridden rim brakes up until then. Helped her big time to single that out, no brake panik anymore - freed up focus for other aspects of riding!

Yess! Makes us mere mortals feel a bit more normal in all the backflipping of the other videos. A tip I got from a very good CC racer I know: „It‘t not riding for hours on sunday that gets you fit, its the 45 minutes on every day from monday to saturday.“

Agree, this is great coaching. My partner scared the hell out of me by telling me I could crash the way I was riding which made me worry about crashing the rest of the trail. Needless to safe I was twitchy, tight and hyperventilating as a result.

What you say about "that's why I am here", Blake saying during lifting Jen bike up, he knows place in a row ;-) :-D :-D
@rolux48533 жыл бұрын
@@MayaEbrahim positive support really is helpful, but certain behaviors on the bike should definitely be pointed out when they’ll lead to crashing. Being aware of the danger is definitely important on some trail features. On this small rollers it’s not a big thing, because a crash wouldn’t hurt to much. But on a real trail where you go faster being aware of bad behaviors that lead to catastrophic outcomes is a good thing, because you can actively avoid dangerous behavior/situations. Also don’t be afraid of crashes too much, every Mountainbiker will crash at some point, it’s inevitable. The more you progress, the more you’ll crash. It’s part of the game and usually not a big thing. So better be aware and somewhat prepared.

I too used the follow me approach for my girlfriends Introduction to Mountainbiking. She even jumped a few small jumps, which she would’ve never done if she’d gone in front of me, because she obviously doesn’t know yet which speed it takes. She’d think she’s far worse than she is, but I know that she can handle more and that’s why I made her follow me. She’s a pretty good trail rider on horseback so I know she has the body strength and sense for stability that she needs to Mountainbike, but she didn’t believe that because of her lack of experience. If I used the approach that Blake used it would have taken so much longer to get her to the level she is at now. Everyone is different and some people need a little push from time to time to find out what they are really capable of!

Hands down blake should be the ambassador for beginners getting into MTB! As well as being a sick biker he's also an insanely positive guy! I recently bought my first "proper" mountain bike, mainly to get to and from work, but the GMBN videos make me want to go on some trails around Sherwood forest! My previous MTB was a GT Karokoram from '91 with a steel triple triangle frame! That's now been retired to my parents garage as it's got far too much sentimental value!

I tried to teach my Wife when we were dating, but no luck because she was just too scared of crashing literally all the time. She wouldn't or couldn't relax no matter how easy a trail was....so I bought her a road bike and keep her on the paved trail, neighborhood streets, and sometimes out on the road. Some people just aren't built physically or mentally for mtn biking, so I will enjoy riding with my Wife where she's comfortable. KUDOS TO JEN for giving it a go.....keep it up

This video comes just at the perfect time because i'm learning my little stister (she's twelve) how to mountainbike. It's really fun to see her making progress, she's gone from not having mountainbiked at all, to now being comfortable making turns, she rides well off-road and she climbs and decends on small bumps. I am verry happy with the result after only 45 minutes of practising, but it makes me even more happy to see how much fun she thinks it is.
