Good video. I like your humble and gracious attitude, and appreciate being able to see a brief overview and normal person's perspective of Neorg and Neovim in general. I'm still trying to decide how I want to take notes. I know I want to use Neovim for it, and now I'm just trying to decide between plugins like Neorg or VimWiki. I've already started creating my own cheatsheets with Navi, and the idea of writing my own documentation that I could reference later has been growing on me. Having it organized, browseable, and searchable is definitely important. Thinking back to every time I've spent time troubleshooting and solving the exact same problem as weeks, months, or even years ago has made me realize just how much value something like this could have. It would only take a few extra seconds to write down some notes (or even a brief guide) about how I resolved a particular issue, or how to accomplish a specific task, could be really helpful in the future (since, let's be real, I'm probably not going to remember exactly what I learned or did by the time that knowledge becomes relevant again), and provide an easy way of sharing that knowledge with others.

So I know this will probably seem wild to recommend especially cause the video is about Neorg. But Doom EMacs (or even vanilla eMacs) would work really well for what you’re trying to do. Especially with the browsable/searchable thing.

Yep, certainly planning to give it a try sometime soon.

Yeah it’s something with OBS. It’s like it only records the left side. Trying to figure it out just haven’t been able to yet. Thanks! Glad to be back!

Loving to hear the perspective of a non dev working in nvim. I’m an industrial engineer and trying to get this to work for me!

Searching in the issues, it appears that italics is just done with slashes before & after; and bold is asterisks before & after? I haven't tested it though, I just saw this video & will look into neorg later; as I am still searching for something org-mode-ish [since from what I've seen org mode is probably pretty much what I want, but I never really could warm up to emacs, even with evil mode]

Ahh okay, yeah I see that now. Completely missed that lol that’s cool cause I was kind of like “man no italics? That’s just odd” I’ve been using Neorg more often and I do like it but I feel like it’s so new and emacs/doom emacs has been around so long that it just feels a bit more polished than Neorg. At least for now, who knows where it’ll go in the future.

Wow you are not a developer and still use neovim and emacs..?? amazing... i have mad respect you... i am a dev still i often get over overwhelmed configuring neovim or emacs.... grandad i even made some neovim plugins(even one that can show latex(math) preview in neorg) and contributed to early development of luanrvim, still i don't get this fully... so how you did you managed to start linux/neovim/emacs journey ? was your experience starting these out?
@blakehensley Жыл бұрын
Haha yeah. I found out about linux/neovim/emacs and all this stuff because I used to want to get into IT/cybersecurity and that’s what started my journey with linux. Once I dove into linux I found out about all the wonders of emacs and neovim and all the other great tools that are available on linux. Yeah trust me there’s no way I would be able to write plugins 😂 I still just find it all cool and interesting

You can get italics by wrapping a word in ‘/‘ -> /this will be italic/

Hey, I'm a not developer who uses both neovim and doom emacs. Paramedic gang here who uses emacs to take notes, journal, keep a calendar, and do some long form writing. Neovim for .config files lmao

Hell yeah 🙌🏼 haha when I was daily driving linux, I used nvim and eMacs all the time. I moved over to macOS (just cause it’s easier to make these videos) and so I’ve been exploring other apps too. But I do miss my emacs setup sometimes 😂

Meh... I like the Emacs GUI with mixed fonts and graphics. I have my org setup to be prettier than the default. This means headings, bold, italic, etc. render and I can have variable pitch fonts for writing. Dropping to a terminal to launch tmux / Neovim is something I simply don't do anymore. Not with Emacs Dired & TRAMP features. If I really need a command line I can use eshell or eat instead of opening a terminal outside of Emacs.

Using Emacs, Vim, nano interchangeably. Mostly in Emacs. I love the integration with org, dired, tramp, magit, etc. So yeah, just use Emacs for most case is enough.
