Thank you! I had the pleasure of hearing Ms. Verlet in Boston back during the 1970s. She had the most sensitive touch on the harpsichord. I never forgot how beautifully she transitioned from one manual to another in one piece in particular. It was then that I realized she had a special gift, a unique talent.

She was a bit like, in the piano world, Rubinstein, Horowitz and some few others.. whatever they did had some meaning.

Hi Yuri, I discovered the toccatas with Gould's interpretation and instantly loved them, I even bought the score! My favorite is the c minor one, would love to play it one day. The harpsichord here sounds a bit like like a Tangentenflügel! Thanks for sharing!

Hi Jeremy! Yes, that c minor toccata is a pretty good piece of music! I don't think I will attempt to play it in this life.. but one never knows! Everything is possible! I know what you mean by the sound of the harpsichord. It is a nice harpsichord sound I find!

She was indeed legendary harpsichordist and a teacher who inspired her students. The instrument's sound is great. I like hearing her Bach's interpretations, although she was known more for her F. Couperin performances. Thanks a lot for uploading this really unique vinyl record. Will you upload also the 2nd half of this record?

I have read that Bach would sit down and write his music for keyboard away from the instrument, and then when finished, he would take it to the clavier and learn the piece as anyone would learn a new piece. (CPE Bach discusses this in his various memories and obituary of his great father.) It was more common for a musician to improvise music at the keyboard and then write it down. This isn't bad certainly, but it represents a different level of musicianship. Someone, I don't remember who, called these musicians "harpsichord hussars."

Interesting information! Thanks for sharing it. They are certainly two different types of creative process. On the same subject but slightly disconnected.. according to contemporaries, it seems like Chopin's compositions on paper were not as otherworldly as his improvisations.. he then tried to write the improvised ideas down and we got the music that we all know.
